The Heroine’s Journey of Laura Martin

What is the thing I love about my work?
I love that I get a chance to be in circumstances as if I’m someone else, and experience things I might not get to in my own life. It gives me the opportunity to be anyone.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?
The closest it is for me is when I’m enjoying the simple things in life with my family and friends. Feeling completely content in those moments is bliss.

What is my greatest fear?
I have a huge fear of developing dementia and becoming a burden to others. My dad passed away from Lewy Body disease and it was heartbreaking to see him suffering and confused.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
That I’m not more forthcoming when it comes to my true emotions, and often hide my sadness or disappointment behind a smile. I’m working on allowing myself to be more open and vulnerable.

What is my great extravagance?
I’m fortunate to have the extravagance of a flexible schedule to pursue acting.

On what occasion would I lie?
I detest lying, but in instances like with my dad, the dementia caused by his illness would make his sense of reality different, but it was real to him. In those circumstances I think it’s ok in order not to cause unnecessary stress or frustration.

What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life?
I have been lucky to have some fellow actors as role models who I look up to that have demonstrated and encouraged me on not allowing fear to keep you from achieving your goals. Don’t tell yourself no!

What is the thing I dislike most in my work?
I get disappointed in the lack of strong female protagonist roles. I’m also not a fan of call times before sunset, but that is easily remedied with coffee. 😉

When and where was I the happiest in my work?
I’m always happy to be working on any set. It’s even better when I get to do it with my daughter.

If I could, what would I change about myself?
My lack of ability to carry a tune. Trust me, it’s scary!

What is my greatest achievement in work?
I don’t feel like it’s happened yet, as I see myself as a work in progress.

What is the most inspirational location, in my city?
It’s more about who I’m with than where. If I’m with the right people, any spot can bring inspiration.

What is my most favorite place to eat and drink in my city?
Halcyon! It’s like my version of the show “Cheers. “ Where everybody knows your name.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
My husband,  who supports me in the craziness I pursue. Also my friend, Alan, who always encourages me to go for it!

Whom would I like to work with in the future?
I would love to work with Kyle Chandler. He’s a great actor, and seems like a genuine person. Plus, I might have a slight crush.

What project in the nearby future, am I looking forward to working on?
I’m excited to start filming in a few weeks for a role in the feature film. “One Day We’ll Be Old.”  After that there’s a few projects in the works, and hopefully more opportunities will come my way.
