What is the best thing that I love about my work? I am not going to be innovative with my answer but what can be better than to earn money by doing what you love?? It is a double win. Plus a sense of freedom which for me can be a blessing and a curse.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? I do not believe in perfect happiness but I love the idea of being in peace with one self and with the outside world. To be happy with what is and not to worry about future perspective, past mistakes and not ‘enough-ness’
What is my greatest fear? When I was younger I used to have fears of failure – big and small. As I get older I understand that each failure is a stepping stone to a greater opportunity. They allow us to become our better, stronger, shinier selves. There is no lotus without mud.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Lack of focus. I can get easily distracted by digital overstimulation or the stream of my own thoughts and loose the track of time. Having an everyday spiritual practice helps tremendously.
What is my greatest extravagance? Parfumes…. just can’t resist a good scent.
On what occasion would I lie? There is a russian saying that ‘bitter truth is better than a sweet lie’ but I have learnt that its not always the case. Sometimes the truth is just unnecessary and unkind.
What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life? In my life I admire smart and independent women and intelligent and sharp-minded men. In my work I look up to passionate, driven and devoted people who are not afraid of taking risks and being bold. I have a few people that influenced both my life and work, they are Alexander McQueen, Kelly Wearstler and Piero Fornasetti.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Since I am one man company it can be quite lonely and isolating at times. I need to remind myself to get out of my bubble and socialise.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? While at the drawing table, receiving new samples, getting ‘Thank you’ messages from customers. Poor joy!
If I could, what would I change about myself? To be less of a thinker and more of a doer. Also I would like more self belief and trust.
What is my greatest achievement in work? Having produced my first collection of fine china. Each piece felt like a newborn 🙂
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? TATE Modern Museum, V&A Museum, Shoreditch (a creative hub and the area where I live)
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? In my local area we are spoilt for choice. For coffee – Ozone Coffee, for lunch – Andina (little peruvian ceviche, street food) for dinner – Rivington Grill (best of British) Cocktail – Lounge Bohemia (each cocktail is a mini theatrical performance)
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My loved ones.
Whom would I like to work with in the future? I would love to do a collaboration with Liberty London store. Ultimate dream!
What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on? I am developing a series of silk scarves and wallpaper prints which is a new and exciting venture for me.
