The Heroine’s Journey of Marianne Venderbosch

What is the best thing that I love about my work

I love the ongoing creative process of converting an idea into a series of paintings. I love painting, drawing and adding gold leaf. There is always a range of creative ideas in my mind, just sitting there, sometimes even forgotten. Then, often from an angle I never could have imagined, something crosses my path and brings it to reality financially. I love that journey.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

The moments when I am fully aware that I am alive and in an ongoing process of change. When I am in this state of mind, I instantly feel overwhelming happiness and the consciousness that it’s a real treasure to be here on this incredible adventure that’s called life.

What is my greatest fear?

If by “greatest” you mean “the most beautiful”, I would say the fear itself. There’s a state of being of super sensitivity that pops up when there’s something not okay in a situation. When I feel it, I know I have to act in that situation to stay safe. It’s a real gift to have this intuition; it’s there when it’s needed. I don’t make up fears in my mind. When I start worrying, I know I need to take some rest, so that’s what I do.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I thought about this for a long time but I just do not know the answer, which probably means that I am comfortable with all my traits.

Which living person in my profession do i admire most?

I admire all artists and individuals who were able to create in so many different styles and ways. It is a human need to share and enjoy this. It’s miraculous what people created throughout history and it is even more fantastic that this ongoing creativity through human history is still visible around us in art and architecture.

What is my greatest extravagance?

Traveling and jewelry and the connection between both. I buy most of my jewelry while traveling, they are my treasure chest of memories.

On what occasion would I lie?

I would only lie when I know that when I would tell the truth, it could hurt somebody. I prefer honesty and have great difficulties with lying. I found the solution in sometimes just choosing not to tell something. When it’s not said, it is not in the world and it cannot do any harm.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

What I dislike the most in my work is at the same time what I like the most: the solitude. I love to meet and connect with new people, family and friends and I love to hang around in cities and travel the world. But as an artist I need the isolation to create and work out all the beautiful ideas that came to mind during traveling and good conversation. Creating takes hours of concentration and dedication. Being isolated is tough and at the same time what I love the most. When I work I feel completely connected to myself and I feel pure happiness.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

Every time when I paint, I am happy. Happy is just the state of being when I am painting.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I would change my hair, I would love to have beautiful long hair.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

Independence and freedom of thinking.

Where would I most like to live?

I would like to live in a place close to the sea.

What is my most treasured possession?

A lock of my fathers hair, which I keep in a 15th century ceramic box from China.

What is my most marked characteristic?

Very good eyesight and visual memory.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

At the moment I live in Ubud for a few months. It’s a village in Bali and I love to travel around on the back of a motorcycle and discover the surrounding area, the paddy fields, the museums.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

The small warungs in the village.

What books influenced my life and how?

Art books. I could watch the pictures of artworks over and over again. Every time I will see something new.

Who are my favorite writers?

Ernest Hemingway, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Gabriel Garcia Marquez

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

The music I love to listen at that time. I always have a few favorite songs in a certain period of time that I can listen to many, many times in a repetitive way. I am sure I will have a few favorites at the moment I die too. I do not know them now.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

TinTin

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

My children and my father and mother

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

Lion

What role plays art in my life and work?

Art plays a general role in my work as I am an artist, art historian and gallery owner

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

My family are my greatest fans. I am looking for a sponsor for my next project and my partner in crime must be me, as I do not have a partner.

Whom would I like to work with in 2019?

I love to work with Martine Micallef! She chose me as the artist for the capsule collection 2019 of her and her partners Geoffrey Nejman, French Haute Parfumerie brand Maison Micallef. We created a new collection of hand painted bottles and boxes inspired by one of my paintings called “Spring” for the fragrance “Pure Extreme” with the name “Marianne Venderbosch & M. Micallef”.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019?

Art collectors who will buy my art works and an investor for my new project with my pop up gallery; Venderbosch Gallery.

What project, in 2019, am I looking forward to work on?

2019 is a year that I dedicate to traveling and working on new ideas and projects. A few weeks ago I arrived in Bali and started working on my new collection of paintings and drawings. Besides that I am designing a new line of jewelry. I will stay in Bali and Java for about four months.

Where can you see me or my work in 2019?

As 2019 is my inspirational year, I will not attend art fairs or organize exhibitions, so you can find my work on my website: https://www.mariannevenderbosch.nl

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me

Passion is the greatest fuel to keep on loving and creating. I did not retire yet and I do not know if passion will retire. Every period in life reveals its own wisdom. Maybe at some point in life, passion flows into pure love and being. I can imagine. I will go with the flow and see what will happen.

Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story?

Here follows a message of Peter de Kuster, founder of the Heroine’s Journey

botticelli-primavera

The Heroine’s Journey is a private tour in story rich venues of world cities with Peter de Kuster, to rewrite the story you tell yourself about yourself and your creative work and in the process transform your life and business.

What is your Story?

“Your story is your life,” says Peter. As human beings, we continually tell ourselves stories — of success or failure; of power or victimhood; stories that endure for an hour, or a day, or an entire lifetime. We have stories about ourselves, our creative business, our customers ; about what we want and what we’re capable of achieving. Yet, while our stories profoundly affect how others see us and we see ourselves, too few of us even recognize that we’re telling stories, or what they are, or that we can change them — and, in turn, transform our very destinies.

Telling ourselves stories provides structure and direction as we navigate life’s challenges and opportunities, and helps us interpret our goals and skills. Stories make sense of chaos; they organize our many divergent experiences into a coherent thread; they shape our entire reality. And far too many of our stories, says Peter, are dysfunctional, in need of serious editing. First, he asks you to answer the question, “In which areas of my life is it clear that I cannot achieve my goals with the story I’ve got?” He then shows you how to create new, reality-based stories that inspire you to action, and take you where you want to go both in your work and personal life.

Our capacity to tell stories is one of our profoundest gifts. Peter’s approach to creating deeply engaging stories will give you the tools to wield the power of storytelling and forever change your business and personal life.
