The Heroine’s Journey of Dema – Pisna Odarka

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

I have always been a versatile person. Since childhood, it seemed to me that doing one thing is simply not fair. After all, man is multifaceted and this is their inner depth. Because of this, today, I have not only one job which gets me great pleasure. The first and main thing – I am an artist in a generation, from my mothers side. I am also the Vice President of the Italian association Musa International Art Space, an adviser to the mayer of Uman town,Ukraine (my hometown) on issues of art and culture. Also, I am the founder of the international short film festival Human Intervention Cinema Festival. And the most important thing that unites all these works and is the main thing for me is that I can slightly change this world for the better.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

Each of us creates their own happiness. Determination of the degree of happiness for each person is individual. For some, a material condition is the main generator of his life. Someone is happy with the little things in his life. For someone, only achieving high career success can make that person happy. I believe that a person is happy at that moment when a new dream begins burning them from inside, the light that will lead them to their dream. As to myself, I can say that I’m happy. I dream a lot. I am the mother of a six-year-old daughter. I am the beloved daughter of my wonderful parents. And every day I try to change this world for the better.

What is my greatest fear?

I am afraid that at some point people will become absolutely cruel to each other. I am afraid that pride, greed, a thirst for power will kill humanity, kindness, sympathy, love in people. We live in a difficult century. It is in the century of choice. A person has an approximate plan for the development of any situation, according to the experience of past centuries. And the most paradoxical thing is that people do not learn from their mistakes. Is this our nature? Alas, I do not agree. This is our choice.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

Oh, I’m a pretty self-critical person. But there is a trait in my character that I do not like at all. I have been working to fix it. But this does not always work out. I am a workaholic and a perfectionist by nature. Although the second one came to me only after I took up art. I always follow one concept: If a person started to do some work, it must either be done perfectly, or not done at all.Because of this, its very difficult for me to bear the moment when, due to life circumstances that are beyond my strength, the work that I do is not as perfect as I want. But I still try to learn to perceive this possibility of the development of life events.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

I admire all the people who have chosen their profession and are devoted to their work. To put it another way, I admire the professionals in their field. And it does not matter in which area they work. The main thing is that it does not harm other people

What is my greatest extravagance?

In my daughter!)) But seriously, in charity. I understand that everything is natural in this world. And helping other people, we help ourselves.

On what occasion would I lie?

I can lie if my family or any other person is in danger. Once there was a situation, in a subway, a drunk man showed his aggression to a young girl. He was a stranger to her. Out of fear, the poor girl froze and could not even say a word. I had to overcome my fear and approach them. I introduced myself as the elder sister of this girl and took her from an aggressive man.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

If I did not like my work, I would not do it. Man always has a choice.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

I am always happy when my days are busy with work. I am happy in my workshop. I am happy when I organize projects for other artists. I am happy when I develop the city where I was born.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

Probably nothing. I am such as God created me. I have my pros and cons. I have always said people are beautiful by nature. After all, each person is a separate universe.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

I can say for sure that this year is amazing for my work. I was happy to present my first catalog of Bible stories in Palermo, Italy. And also, I was very happy to take part in the 58th Venice Biennale this year and to be a member of the national pavilion of Ukraine and present my installation in the parallel project Women Essence in the national pavilion of Bangladesh.

Where would I most like to live?

I love Sicily very much. And Im sure that at some point in my life Ill move there to live. Most likely it will be Palermo. I love to breathe that air. It inspires me and reassures.

What is my most treasured possession?

All material things are temporary like mankind is in this world. So, the most important thing that I have in my life is my daughter and my parents.

What is my most marked characteristic?

As an artist, my paintings are always very bright. I love when colors reveal themselves as brightly as possible on the canvases.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

In Uman, there is a stunning dendrological park “Sofiyivka” built in the name of Count Pototski’s love for his beloved Sofia. This is an amazing story and it is an amazing place for all people. And of course, my native parental home inspires me. It is always cozy, warm, smells delicious, there always sounds laughter, and joy lives fills it in. I’m happy there.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

We have a wonderful place, Zastava restaurant food is very tasty there with an amazing atmosphere. Be sure to order rice with seafood and cuttlefish ink.

What books influenced my life and how?

I like reading. I really like the smell of books. Large libraries. It is as if the world is inside the world. But I cannot single out one book. Since this is at least not fair in relation to those authors whom I read

Who are my favorite writers?

I will say what my favorite genre is historical novels.

We always meet people at the right time for us and for them. So all the people whom I will meet this year will be important for me and I will be glad to meet you.

What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on?

I continue working on biblical stories. But I am also starting work at one very interesting social project, but it is a secret so far.

Where can you see me or my work in 2019/2020?

Oh, this is a difficult question.) On December, 5-7, we will present the new We Contemporarycatalog in Prague. In January, we will open our film festival in Madrid and Zaragoza. In April, there will be a presentation of the Woman Essencecatalog, then in April my presentation of the catalog will take place, as well as a personal exhibition at the Taras Shevchenko National Museum in Ukraine, with the presentation of the catalog and personal exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Tbilisi in the fall of 2020. And I think this is not the whole list till the end of the year.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?

Passion means that one is alive. We are guided by our passion. If we have lost our passion for life, it means only one thing – we have died. Passion cannot go away while man lives. The main point in this is not to renew your passion ourselves.
