The Heroine’s Journey of Diana Dell’Erba

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

Researching the meaning of life.

Life is a huge, marvelous, mystery… Art and acting permit me to explore it.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

After many years of searching for the answer to that question, I can finally sum it up in just one sentence: to wake up in the morning with that energy that pushes you to investigate the world as profoundly as possible.

What is my greatest fear?

There is a line in one of my favourite movies “After Earth” that says:

Fear is not real. It is a product of our imagination. Do not misunderstand me… danger is very real, but fear is a choice.

I found myself often in danger and the fear of those moments lasted much longer than the moments themselves…

Another line from one of my other favourite movies, “Inception” is:

“Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it’s almost impossible to eradicate”.

I worked very hard over the years to get rid of those trains of thought. I think we must follow the idea that it’s “almost impossibile but possibile. ( We must hold on to the hope of finding the solution, which is complicated to find because that solution is different for everyone… but it’s the duty to understand which are our fears, first the big ones, and then the smaller ones…

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I don’t believe that there is anything deplorable in me… everyone of us has things that need improving because life is a journey. I think the key isn’t blaming ourselves or focusing on what’s wrong, but embrasing it.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

Who has find his own path. I think that every job on Earth it’s right if it suits you, if it’s your real blessing. Many times, in everyday life, often in the most humble jobs, I find myself admiring someone in front of me who is a unique piece with his work… that’s true art: the Art of life…

What is my greatest extravagance?

Sometimes I lose myself in the extraordinary world of symbolism… I observe and find connections, and seeing how everything happens for a reason, even the thiny thingsand then sometimes I think it just a, though interesting, but useless and maybe dangerous game my mind plays, like a trap…

On what occasion would I lie?

I’m working to never lying, so often I find myself just keeping my mouth shut! 😉

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Art is often a business involved with compromises, greed, power, vanity… in one word: a lot of Ego. All illusions.

I think an artist should consider them just like tricks that try tempt him to just giving up…

I’m working on taking it that way, by refusing to forget the moments I lived, breithed and saw true art, true creation.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

Everytime I worked with real artists who were about the art and not about the Ego. A real artist makes it about the process not about what they’re going to get out of it. I have had the honour of working with my mentor Mamadou Dioume, and with actors like F Murray Abraham, Christopher Lambert, Kabir Bedi, Geraldine Chaplin, Maria De Medeiros, Louis Nero They were all individuals interested in knowing more about the mistery of life

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I’d give myself more self esteem healing my wounds completely.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

When I feel the chills that in my mind, in my heart and whole body all become one.

Where would I most like to live?

In a world where every person thrills in having authentic exchanges based on love.

What is my most treasured possession?

My greatest provocateur of pain: empathy.

What is my most marked characteristic?

My most treasured possession.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

All of downtown. Turin is an amazing city with extraordinary energy.

When you walk around it, especially at night, you get the sense of why it’s called the magical city”.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Turin is full of excellent restaurants. I love eating different cuisines, from Piedmontese, the typical one, Greek, Moroccan, Iranian, Indian, Turkish. Now fortunately we can do it!

What books influenced my life and how?

Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel: a little but very powerful book that tells you how to keep your mind focused and concentrated.

Also, the book “Art of Dreaming” by Carlos Castaneda, is a book that is currently influcing my life.. I’m challenging myself to achieve what he talks about in his book.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

I love listening to different types of music: from Persian to traditional Tibetan music, from classic music to rock, jazz or bossanova… it depends on my mood or what I want to stir up within me.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

My favourite character is “Doctor Strange” and in general those who have the courage to pass from ordinary to extraordinary world, gaining freedom.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

Everyone that does what Doctor Strange does because fiction stems from reality: I admire those who don’t give up and do what they can to figure out their life, who don’t abbandon their dreams and the hope that everything can happen.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?

“The Fountain“ by Darren Aronofsky.

What role plays art in my life and work?

Not commercial art, but rather, the art of everyday life.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

My partner. We’ve known each other for sixteen years and we’ve been working and living side by side for ten years. It’s a great challenge to live and work together: “it’s a work within a job” which can sometimes be tough, sometimes easy… because being “artists of love” is as beautiful as it is complicated.

Whom would I like to work with in 2019/2020?

With those with whom I share my vision of linking art to spiritual research.

What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on?

Sometimes meetings happen that are a consequence of apparent coincidences. Those meetings often open unexpected and wonderful doors, and it seems to be happening more and more often, I hope to continue the trend

Where can you see me or my work in 2019/2020?

You can check out my work and chat with me at or follow me on Instagram @dianadellerba. I look forward to connecting with you!

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?

The concept of retirement cannot exist for those who have found their true pathif school and our environment tought us to find our talents and to develop those talents at an early age, I think the world would be a much better place.
