The Heroine’s Journey of Pamela Napoletano

What is the best thing that I love about my work? Sharing. It is very gratifying to perceive that something born from the depths of myself can arouse in other people feelings, curiosities or new visions to be followed.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? Feeling in harmony with everything around us
What is my greatest fear? Fall into the quicksand of resentment. Not have a chance of redemption or improvement.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?  The insecurity of being misunderstood or excluded.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I greatly admire people who know how to redeem themselves despite adversity. I admire those who transform their weakness or suffering into a great force capable of breaking patterns, preconceptions or systems (such as art) that are often corrupt.
What is my greatest extravagance? My mind.
On what occasion would I lie? No lie.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Never be satisfied with a job for a long time. This could also be positive because it pushes you to look for new solutions, to have new curiosities but, sometimes, I would like to enjoy more what I do.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? In 2017 I realized a relational art project in Chiavenna (Sondrio, Italy), the country where I currently live. An important part of the history of this place has emerged from the dusty memories of those (now elderly) who lived the year and was interpreted by children through a performance. The past has re-emerged with all its poetry but renewed with a new contemporary light. When I saw generations of people talking together, with enthusiasm, for a common purpose, I experienced an immense emotion.

If I could, what would I change about myself? Don’t believe enough in my energies.
I would like to believe more in my energies. It is frustrating to perceive inwardly a great vital fire and not being able to release all its strength.
Where would I most like to live? Wherever I may feel nourishment transmitted from the natural environment, from the people I meet, from whatever stimulates me to express myself.
What is my most treasured possession? People and everything I love.
What is my most marked characteristic? I think the positivity.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? My professional figure. Realizing socially my fantastic visions is beautiful.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? My home.
What books influenced my life and how? I really love reading the biographies of artists, people who have created a break or made a huge contribution to the art system but not only, even on a social and cultural level. From Peggy Guggenheim, to Marcel Duchamp, Leo Castelli, Lea Vergine, Lisetta Carmi, Coco Chanel, Maria Lai, Andrea Pazienza and many, many others. Beyond the biographies, I remember that after reading “Life and death of the image” by Régis Debray, my vision of art was definitely renewed.
I do not have a common thread in the choice of books (so in the choice of music) if not to look for stories, extraordinary examples of life that I know how to stimulate and be an example.
Who are my favorite writers? My husband
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? “Stairway to heaven”, Led Zeppelin.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? My heroes are all very real.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Anyone who can convey authenticity in this often artificial and standardizing society. Anyone who knows how to give something of himself, without asking for anything in return. Anyone who has an overview of things and is not confined to his own selfishness.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I don’t remember a precise title … I manage to get excited or perceive a nourishment even in films that are not necessarily colossal.
What role plays art in my life and work? Art is life, it is a way of existing, of being, of thinking, of communicating. So I would say that, for me, my life and art fit together.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My husband.
Whom would I like to work with in 2019/2020? I would always like to work with people who have a strong and respectful passion for what they do. Or in situations that can create sharing and transmit great energy.
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019/2020? Anyone who knows how to create an authentic opportunity for me to express myself.
What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on? In March 2020 I will have a personal exhibition at the MVSA Museum in Sondrio.
Where can you see me or my work in 2019/2020? At the MVSA museum in Sondrio or on my website
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? For me, living with passion for everything we do or do is the only way to exist.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? Walter Tacchini, Daniela ContePaolo De Stefani, Silvia Argiolas, Stefano Bombardieri, Evita Endujar, Alessio Manfredi, Massimo Iacopino, Manuel Grosso.
