The Heroine’s Journey of Laura Aldofredi

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The possibility to inspire and give an emotional experience to my audience.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? Having the possibility to create something valuable and relevant and sharing it with the people I love the most and also with whoever is willing to experience it. Let’s say my idea of happiness is strongly connected with the idea of sharing positive energy in any kind of form.

What is my greatest fear? To break my right hand, meaning that I couldn’t draw anymore!
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I sometimes tend to overwork. And if I overwork, I can easily get stressed. This is not healthy and can also affect the people around.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? Of course my friends and colleagues, who keep believing in themselves and their work. Speaking about specific people, I’d say Irene Guerrieri, a fantastic woman, mother, illustrator and designer. She combines the love for her family to the love for her work. She is a very passionated woman! I cannot not mention Mauro Evangelista, my illustration teacher at the Master Ars in Fabula in Macerata, Italy. He taught me with love what illustration means.
And there are so many other people…
What is my greatest extravagance? Oh well, I have many… Maybe the fact that I keep talking to everyone (even people I do not know well!) about my pet.
On what occasion would I lie? I rarely do that. Can’t recall the last time or why I did. I prefer to be honest first with myself and then with the people around me. I think it’s a form of respect.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Maybe the fact that I need to sit so long at the desk. It is not very healthy. And… The accounting part! It is not really for me. For the rest, I do really enjoy every single part of the process.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? So far, in September 2019 when I presented my first animated film, in occasion of my graduation day. I was and I am still really proud of all the effort put into that.
If I could, what would I change about myself? In the creative process I’d like to work more in an intuitive way. In life I’d like to take some things easier and don’t constantly overthink.
What is my greatest achievement in work? I believe it is my first animated film. And the fact that I manage to live and sustain myself with that.
Where would I most like to live? I lived in so many countries and traveled so long that I’m very happy where I am right now. Maybe one day I will move to a more natural and wild place…
What is my most treasured possession? Could it be my geographic atlas? There is a whole world in that book! I love to study it.
What is my most marked characteristic? I think it is my determination. If I want something, I’ll just work my way there.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? In my hometown in Italy, Sarnico, it is the lake. Who lives there knows what the lake means for us. So many memories and so much beauty. In my current town, Amsterdam, I really enjoy Jordaan and the streets in Oud-West: so vibrant and lively!
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? In my hometown in Italy for sure No stress pub. It’s a funny place and it’s possible to meet so many people. In Amsterdam La Petit Delì, a pretty cafè and a French patisserie managed by a lovely
couple. They bake everything in-house and it is just delicious!
What books influenced my life and how? When I was a teenager Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter really influenced me. I think they helped me to believe in a sort of magic and in some values such as friendship,  respect and honesty.
Who are my favorite writers? Murakami and Baricco on the top. I also enjoy the books of Stephen Hawking.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?  Mogwai, Take me somewhere nice
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Batman.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Without doubts my mother. The strongest woman I’ve ever met! She could move a mountain by her own.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? The Neverending Story… But probably you’ve seen it already!
What role plays art in my life and work? I believe it gives authenticity both to my work and my life.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? …my bunny, of course!
Whom would I like to work with in 2020? As mentioned already I’m currently working for a feature film. I’m indeed very lucky as I’m working with great people. The team is going to expand in February and I look forward it.
Which people in my profession would I love to meet in 2020? I hope to be able to visit some film festivals and hopefully to meet more passionated and talented filmmakers.
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on? I’m about to start developing my new animated film. I can’t still share much about it, but I’d like to challenge myself as a director and work with a team. I hope somewhere in 2021 I will be able to start the production.
Where can you see me or my work in 2020? I believe 2020 will be a very productive and precious year for me and my work. I have the feeling I’m going to learn a lot working on different projects, both personal and for clients. I’m also currently working in production for a feature film and this is an amazing experience. On a more personal level I hope to be finally able to speak Dutch and to keep enjoying my quiet life in Amsterdam with my beloved ones and my pet.
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? They mean: just keep doing what you believe in! Be always honest and defend the values important for you.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story?  Daphna Awadish, Gemma de Waard, Irene Guerrieri, Francesca Pusceddu, Ottavia Marini, Francesca Marini, Eleuteria Arena, Bianca Tschaikner, Valeria Vangelista, Natalia Patkiewicz.
