The Heroine’s Journey of Mishell Ivon Walton

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The journey to a new song, I love watching it unfold to a full story.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? I believe a true dream is living in a beautiful reality that you created for yourself, so basically my happiness is living my dreams in real time.
What is my greatest fear? My fears rotate depending on the situations life brings about, but if I had to choose one lingering fear I’d say it would be not having enough time to do all the things I would like to do.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Lol… As an artist you tend to tear yourself apart, down ,up and sideways at times, questioning all that comes to your mind or the minds of others. Occasionally, I am at a tug of war with myself which is an uncomfortable battle.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? So many greats have passed on in the last few years that were instrumental in shaping my view and my path in life, my choice person of inspiration among the living is “SADE”, she in my eyes has an almost perfect music path. Sade makes music that she loves, is respected for her work around the world and has managed to stay out of the nasty press/ tabloids game that surrounds the music industry. The air around this woman has a quiet magic. Powerful.
What is my greatest extravagance? My downtime is important to stay in a good mental state so my travels are not on shoestring budgets Live! Experiment! Enjoy!
On what occasion would I lie? There aren’t that many occasions that would make a lie necessary but in this industry you have a phrase “ fake it till you make it” Im not a fan of FAKING it but I am a supporter of highlighting yourself and going in with full confidence even if a small bit of the puzzle may be missing. BELIEVE in yourself and never apologise for what you are bringing to the table.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? All the paperwork that surrounds it 🙂
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? Happiness appears when I am creating, singing in the studio, performing my works on stage, working with brilliant musicians, making new connections and sitting back and listening to final productions.. this is ongoing and takes place all over the world. My first releases in Japan as a kid were great moments, starting to write my own songs was awesome but the breaking free from puppeteer strings and having the guts to take on my own journey was probably one of the most poignant parts of my story so far. I at one point was so wrapped in doubt and surrounded by a shadowy people that were riding on my insecurities. My the flight to “freedom” was linked to some hard times it ended up being one of the best things I could do for myself. Risking it all has brought a type of happiness that’s hard to put into words.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I’m impatient. I consciously work on my patience and inner stillness daily.
What is my greatest achievement in work? Starting my own label, publishing company and pushing my own album through that label myself in 1 year.
Where would I most like to live? I love where I live now, on a quiet secluded farm that’s close enough to the Munich city. There are so many places in the world I love being, that’s where travel comes in. Some of my top favs are Amsterdam, San Francisco, Sicily, Sardinia….
What is my most treasured possession? Photographs. Family, friends, memories, moments …irreplaceable
What is my most marked characteristic? Physically : Wild hair, recognisable profile
Personality: Determined. I find a way.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? My studio… at home.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? When I am out and about in Munich I’ll grab Ethiopian food.
Who are my favorite writers? James Baldwin is one of my favourite writers
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Sade, Michael Jackson, Prince, Falco, Satin Jackets, Christine and the queens.. geez.. there are so many!
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Pam Grier played the iconic character FOXY BROWN. FOXY was a bad ass woman .. and one of the first black heroines on silver screen. Look & attitude 100 %
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Personal Heros/Heroines
This seems cliche but I have to really mention my parents here, without them I
would of never had the fuel/ fire/ desire to develop as an artist. They invested their
time and effort in me from the very start.. I am very thankful for that! Working along side my dreams while reaching their own or maybe even sacrificing some of their own.
My life partner is my HERO. He literally is my wind. Heros/Heroines from the current culture ? Not sure. I like a lot of the messages and causes out there being fought and rallied for but as of right now there isn’t anyone that I can say.. YASSSS that’s it.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Dancer in the Dark
What role plays art in my life and work? A constant role. I love it , respect it , live it and create it.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My Love. Johannes.
Whom would I like to work with in 2020? Collaboration is a focus of mine for 2020.
Im open. Musicians, producers, songwriters, bookers, Also I’d love to connect with some more people on the electro scene, Maybe even Satin jackets or Kazzey at some point.
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on? My solo work as “Mishell Ivon” and my band “Novi”.
