The Heroine’s Journey of Marisol Gonzalez Nohra

What is the best thing that I love about my work?
The freedom of choice, the possibility to organize my time and dedicate the right moment to each task according to how I feel. The variety of things I can do. And to be able to work from anywhere.
What is my idea of perfect happiness?
Being surrounded by like-minded people and friends, being in nature, walking barefoot in summertime, a good conversation, a fun dinner with friends, playing games with my son. Happiness for me is just being able to enjoy life, even when not everything goes well, to be able to recognize and appreciate, how lucky we are to be here, healthy and free.
What is my greatest fear?
To loose my freedom. To loose someone I love.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
It might be hard for me to find the right way to tell others what I don’t like or what disappoints me.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?
I don’t admire people in my profession… I rather admire every human being that fights for his or her dreams. People that help the needy, and I admire musicians, they bring music to our lives.
What is my greatest extravagance?
I don’t think I am extravagant, perhaps not watching the tv and news and reading newspapers is my extravagance…?
I just want to be out of that system that is designed to make people live with worry and fear.
On what occasion would I lie?
I try not to do it… Also I can’t, my face gives it away.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
The financial instability of being a freelance. But I learned how to deal with it and prefer this instead of not being free.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
When someone appreciates my work, when a client feels happy when I deliver a furniture. When I loose the sense of time working on something I enjoy.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
In some situations I would like to be more confident.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
To be able to live as a freelance from my passion. Changing skin from graphic designer to furniture maker, from that to art director…
Where would I most like to live?
I would like to divide my time in two different spots: a city, like Barcelona where I live, or Lisbon, and a countryside spot close to the sea, that would be my perfect match.
What is my most treasured possession?
The people around me: my son and my friends. But I would call them my treasures, not my possessions. We don’t own anybody and further away, anything.
What is my most marked characteristic?
I look distracted as if I’m somewhere else, sometimes this makes me look a bit superficial or distracted, but in reality I am not that much, I just filter the information I let in.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
My house, where I work most of the time, and often go seaside in the morning before work.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
I love to have my morning coffee, at the place of my friend, Hush Hush.
I am a more day person so love brunch places, for example Levante, and homemade bakeries, one is Funky Bakers in my hood.
For drinks/eat I enjoy Bar Cañete or Bar Alegria, they are old school places very spanish, I fancy unpretencoiuos happy places.
What books influenced my life and how?
Some books of Pema Chodron and Eckart Tolle helped me in a moment of my life. I am more into cabala esoteric and shamanism readings now.
Who are my favorite writers?
Amin Maalouf
Mario Vargas Llosa (I like reading him because his novels make me travel back to an specific time in my home country)
Chimammanda Ngozi Adichie (from Nigeria, her novels brought me a point of view to the social problematic in african countries)
Yuval Noah Harari
Paulo Coehlo
Margaret Attwood
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
I have many songs but i would choose this one to prepare myself for that big journey.
“The Southern Sea” of Garth Stevenson
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Wonderwoman, I loved as a kid how she would spin and transform 🙂
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
I don’t have heroes but I admire visionaries and dreammers, every person who pursues his dreams no matter what, resilient people who can reborn from difficulties, people that are true to themselves and consequent with their ideas.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?
The Shape of Water, by Guillermo del Toro….I was amazed by the beauty of the aesthetic of this film, also loved the story.
What role plays art in my life and work?
Like nature, for me is a source of inspiration and beauty in all its shapes.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
My clients that trust my work. My close friends with whom I also share it.
Whom would I like to work with in 2020?
With someone who will bring an offer I can’t refuse.
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2020?
Creatives, entrepreneurs and visionaries who are passionate and willing to work in environmental / social projects.
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on?
Something creative but out of my box, that can contribute to a change in social/environmental issues.
Where can you see me or my work in 2020?
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?
Passion never dies, it only transforms, from one two another along our lives.
If all people were able to follow their passion, wich I understand sometimes for different reasons cannot be possible, there would be more happy people here.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story?
Laura Bronkers (Plant based chef  and retreat facilitator)
Federica Sandreti (Architect and light designer)
