The Heroine’s Journey of Kimmy Oooh

What is the best thing that I love about my work? My work is real, passion, authentic. A layer of me exposed. Like my brain showing a movie. I love it because it brings neverending joy, fulfillment expression, and I don’t have to work hard at it ..it just flows my work allows me to connect with others

What is my idea of happiness? My idea of Happiness is waking up EVERYDAY and choosing to be Happy. To be at peace with my current position, with the understanding that I’ll always seek more from life and myself.

What is my greatest fear? My greatest fear is leaving my children behind to not have someone who loves and supports them like I do and have. My biggest fear is staying stagnant in a world that has already shown little respect, but especially to a black woman. My biggest fear is working over 30 to 40 years and not being able to experience real wealth and money management.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I deplore that I’m so loyal at times. Loyal to people, loyal to jobs, and damn sure loyal to myself. That’s why I had to change my thinking and stance on all relationships moving forward. I went through an awakening in 2024..I think I cried 350 of the 365 days that year just trying to get out my hamster wheel of poor thinking, grief, decision and even poorer familial and social relationships.

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? As far as work ethic, voice and tenacity, I really admire singers, Ciara, Teedra Moses and the singer Riley. The first two I mentioned, I also admire them because we’re all mother’s, still going after our dreams. Ms. Riley just has a killer voice and is seasoned.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? The thing I dislike the most is competing and unnecessary beef. We are all talented. All here with a duty and job to fulfill. So instead of hate, uplift each other..expand music and create more opportunities for the like minded next generation. The only thing I dislike about my current situation is I wish I had more time to create. I work 40 hours a week and have a son in 3rd grade. I also have 2 older daughters that I support; so I wear many hats and just wish I had more time to create. To sit in silence. To touch nature.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I was the happiest when I did my first recording of myself in 20 years. I still have the same happy, positive attitude and hunger for my creativity.. It’s fun to me, not work. I am happiest when I have no disruptions and I can create freely, whether that’s singing, song writing, rapping or writing poems/journaling.

If I could, what would I change about myself? There’s nothing I would change about myself that I’m not actively working on. I create daily. I’m working on my finances and I hope that one of my creative outlets will afford me more residuals in the future.

What is my greatest achievement in work? My greatest achievements have been writing, singing and publishing two songs this year. My published song, ‘BLUEPRINT,’ placed 4th in the national 2025 Top Hitmaker Songwriter Challenge. I have also positioned myself well on all my social platforms. I have a good following, good rapport, and I am excited that I have inspired so many around the world already..through music.

Where would I most like to live? I would most like to live in a spacious, urban area; preferably out of the country. I stay to myself a lot, so I would enjoy being within a short driving distance of local shops, eateries, and somewhere I could draw inspiration from. I am a city girl but also enjoy parks, nature and lush areas. I’m also a winter baby that hates the cold. My perfect weather is 77 and sunny with a light breeze.

What is my most treasured possession? My most treasured possession I have is a Sterling silver and Amethyst heart shape pendant that I wear everyday. It holds my dearGrandmothers ashes and I cherish it dearly. My second most treasured possession would be all my writings.

What is my most marked characteristic? I would say my most marked characteristics would be my eyes, but most people that I come across say it’s my lips. I believe my eyes are always reading everything, so they always have a light and are the window to the soul.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The most inspirational place/ area in my city is on Lake Michigan. Being by the water is calming, serene, and just brings peace and hope.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? One of my favorite places to eat and drink is a restaurant called Harry’s. They offer a variety of American food, specialty sandwiches and the perfect cocktails. It’s a bit dimmer than I’d like but the Atmosphere is quaint and bursting at times with patrons. It’s located in the Uptown area of my city.. close to Lake and lots of other quality spots to shop/dine.

What books influenced my life and how? ‘The Coldest Winter Ever’ by Sistah Souljah and The Book of Psalms have been my latest page turners. The book by Sistah Souljah is just inspiring because it tells an eloquent story of a young, ‘Daddy’s girl, growing up during the 80’s with her drug dealer father. She was very strong, survived a lot and made it out. I was inspired by her ‘beat the odds Journey. Reading the Book of Psalms is for comfort, continued guidance and balance. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving when reading.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen to on my last day? I would listen to all my recorded music and pieces; mixed with a Prince serenade.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? My fictional heroine would be from the movie Black Panther. ‘Queen Ramonda,” T’Challa’s mother. She is feminine, but strong – protective and loving; very similar to myself in real life.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? I don’t really have a heroine but I admire Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and her daughter Tracy Ross. They are just beautiful examples of Black, successful, creative women. Fierce at their crafts, like me. My heroes are dead ….my Grandma, Whitney Houston, Prince. My grandmother was my everything. I wanted to be Whitney Houston, as a child and Prince always inspired me with his No Limit creative.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? One movie that I would recommend seeing this lifetime is ‘Imitation of Life.’ This movie taught me glamour, never to lie and to Always be authentic. It also taught me the lengths a mother will go to provide and protect her child.

What role play stories in my life and work? The roles that play in my life and work are a Mother, Lover, Sister, friend, humanitarian, creator, Poetess, a Leader, and a Mentor/mentee. Also a Comedian.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ mean to me? These words mean the ‘world’ to me. The ability to express myself, my life, my thinking through words, music, lyrics is so powerful. The grace, tenacity and will to expose myself through words and tell a story is magical, prolific, and everlasting.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My Grandmother was my biggest cheerleader, supporter and confidant. I honestly haven’t had anyone close to me since her passing. My daughters and my Aunt are also my biggest cheerleaders and support system currently.

Which people or companies would I like to work with ? There are so many singers I’d love to write with and for. Angela Bassett, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leon Thomas, Riley, Teedra Moses, are the first to come to mind. Companies that I’d like to brand with would be Tik Tok, IG, Universal Music Group, You Tube, BET, Harpo Productions, BMG, Hallmark, iheart Radio and all community foundations possible- wherever my feet land and my voice travels.

What project am I looking forward to working on? I have been pen pals with a pianist from Japan for the past year. I am excited about a song we’re working on and I hope to publish and release it; along with my EP this February 2026.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? The words ‘Passion Never Retires’ means my Purpose and Drive don’t have an Expiration date. That, I Am, and We Are All ‘still in the ring,’ still in the race..no matter what our endeavors entail. It means to reinvent yourself and strive for more of the things you’re passionate about; regardless of age and stage in life.

Which creative professionals should Peter invite to tell their story? To be honest, I am still growing my audience and meeting so many lovely and new people along the way. I like to work with newcomers and the underdog; so any hungry Journalist, Illustrator, Screenwriter, Music producer, Acting Coach, Vocal Coach, Artistic/ Creative Director that would be interested.
