The Heroine’s Journey of Amber Michelle Russell

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I don’t know that I “love” any part of my work. I always want to grow artistically, but I’m enjoy using it as personal therapy.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Living a passionate life, giving and receiving love and being surrounded by loved ones.

What is my greatest fear? Not giving it my all. No matter what the entails.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I’m very impatient.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? Laurie Lipton and Chris Mars.

What is my greatest extravagance? Usually it’s art supplies, Lately it’s been clothing.

On what occasion would I lie? I’m not a huge fan of lying or liars I can’t say that there would be an occasion for lying.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I’d like to get stronger with color theory to really make the images pop.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? Right now! There’s no point in looking backwards.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I’m a big supporter of personal growth. I believe in looking forward and becoming the best version of yourself.
What is my greatest achievement in work? Getting invited to show with artists that I have respected and admired in the art community on a consistent basis.
Where would I most like to live? I’ve always had the reclusive artist fantasy (living in the woods and painting). Realistically, I do enjoy the culture and experiences of a larger city. I enjoy where I’m at currently. Milwaukee, Wisconsin!
What is my most treasured possession? In 2017 two artist friends of mine passed away, I’m lucky enough to own a piece of art from both of them.
What is my most marked characteristic? Eyes.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Nature trails. There are many of them locating within the city and it helps to go for a walk and clear my mind.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? Bonefish Grill.
What books influenced my life and how? I wouldn’t say there’s books that have influenced my life but definitely any of Charles Bukowski’s poetry.
Who are my favorite writers? Charles Bukowski. Andrea Gibson.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Probably a mixture of anything from my childhood to present.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Not to name anyone specifically, but my definition of a “hero” would be someone who has overcame great struggles in their lives and still can walk around with a positive outlook.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Good Will Hunting. Always a favorite of mine.
What role plays art in my life and work? Art is an emotional outlet for me. I use it as a form of therapy. If I didn’t have art to express myself I probably wouldn’t be able to function mentally.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Myself.
Whom would I like to work with in 2018? More Darker themed galleries! I’ve been lucky enough to work with some outstanding venues, but I look forward to branching out even more in 2018.
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2018? The most influential people in my profession are dead unfortunately. Specifically I don’t have anyone in mind but I’d love to meet more curators and respected artists within the community
.
What project, in 2018, am I looking forward to work on? Because my work is seen as “dark” I am usually at my busiest during the Halloween Season. I always enjoy The yearly DAMNED exhibition put on by Tangent gallery in Detroit.
Where can you see me or my work in 2018? You’ll be seeing my work at galleries throughout the year! I always promote the exhibitions that I’m involved in.
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I believe that a creative soul never stops creating. We need to express ourselves differently than others in society, we may take breaks from our creative process but we never completely stop working on art.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? There’s too many to list but a favorite of mine is Jel Ena. She’s also a lovely person.

Spring Journey Itinerary

Day One: The first day of the Spring Journey is designed to equip us with the core skills of The Heroine’s Journey and Storytelling. We will learn the power of the story we tell ourselves, why our minds have a hard time understanding themselves, how to map and understand our passions, and how and why we characteristically respond to them.

Day Two: The second day of the Spring Journey takes us on a structured journey around the power of your story as creative professional.  Creative flow is always in essence a mental phenomenon, it is a result of ideas- and a story you tell yourself therefore relies on having to hand a raft of enriching stories about your business, your money management, your self promotion and your time management that can be called upon in moments of truth. The day begins with a Heroine’s Journey Breakfast – considering what three of the greatest creative heroines of all time have as story about the art of creative living wisely and well.

Day Three: The third day of the Spring Journey teaches us how to choose our clients and business partners wisely and make our relationships last. One of the gravest errors we make around business relationships is to imagine that they aren’t things we can get wiser or better at. On this day we will learn to practise and rehearse our skills at working with the people who can help you further your creative business (clients and business partners like agents, publishers, marketing professionals etcera). In the evening, we will attend a Storytelling Dinner in a local restaurant – learning to overturn small talk and master the art of opening up our deepest stories.

Day Four: The fourth day of the Spring Journey teaches us how to achieve our creative career potential. We will employ storytelling tools to be better able to understand our creative talents and to move forward using the opportunities that are open to us.

Day Five: The final day of the Spring Journey explores new business opportunities and markets for you to as creative professional. Many of the challenges we encounter in modern life require us to develop creative solutions to complex problems. And even when we’re not tackling big problems, continuously improving the way we live using invention and imaginative strategy is deeply important.
