What is the best thing that I love about my work?
Definitely the fact I work together with many others talented artists; that means one can always improve their skills and learn something new just by sharing a common workplace. This is a big advantage because in this field the competition is very high.
What is my idea of happiness?
Spend time together with the people I love.
Sometimes it means just being in a quiet place and having a mind free of worries.
What is my greatest fear?
To lose the ones I care the most.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
I usually make the others a priority, with the consequence my wellbeing falls to the background.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?
Bruno Bozzetto. He’s a genuine person, I admire his strenght and determination. You can see like a spark in his eyes when he talks about his job.
What is my greatest extravagance?
I’m not afraid to spend my money to buy a new dice set.
On what occasion would I lie?
Only to prevent someone from being harmed.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
Most of the time, you’re hired on a contract for a single project and this means you might have to change workplace or even the place where you live quite often. It’s hard to find a stability.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
It was probably when I got my first job. I finally had a chance to challenge myself and to prove my skills.
Another occasion was when I became more confident with my job role and I started being assigned more important and complex tasks.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
My body. With an artificial one. Seriously, it’s starting aching too much for my age and I’m still far away from becoming ambidextrous.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
I think it’s knowing my team mates have trust in me.
Where would I most like to live?
I really wish I could live in a quiet, not very crowded place. If it’s not too warm it’d be best. Something like Iceland could work.
What is my most treasured possession?
My friends.
What is my most marked characteristic?
I’m very analytic and rational and I tend to examine everything around me.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
All the old libraries and the Manchester Museum. I mean, there’s a T-rex. That’s so cool.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
I haven’t found one yet, unfortunately.
What books influenced my life and how?
Sometimes I wish I could disappear and start a new life as the main character from “Il fu Mattia Pascal”.
Fahrenheit 451 is also one great book and I think it could be quite contemporary, in terms of “deleting the knowledge”. It makes you think about how important is to learn, have an history and a past, something to teach and a phyisical place where to store all this knowledge in order to not forget.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
All the songs I reconnect to the most important moments of my life and that could remind me of the people I love.
Along with something stupid, as a parody song.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Any of the eight sensates in Sense8.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
Adèle Haenel, Elon Musk, Margherita Hack, Stephen Hawking, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo.
A special mention goes to the pizza delivery guy.
Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?
Interstellar.
What role plays art in my life and work?
I don’t think I could live without it. Art amazes me, it’s something that makes me feel an emotion.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me?
That’s true.
You must act in order to achieve something. You can’t wait for someone else to tell your story or to decide your path.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
My bro.
Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2020?
That’s a difficult question. I think at the moment I’d like to work on a show for Netflix. It would be easier to show my work to someone if it they could find it in their subscription, especially if the show has a big distribution.
I’d also like to try how it works in the videogame industry, I really love the backgorund/concept art of Rayman, perhaps there will be the opportunity to work together with Ubisoft one day.
Which people in my profession who can make a real difference in my creative career would i love to meet in 2020?
One of my greatest inspiration as an artist is Nik (https://www.nikbackgroundart.com/).
I can’t explain how much I love his backgrounds.
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on?
At the moment, I don’t have any particular project, but I’d like to share my experience with younger people.
When I was a student in high school, I had no idea this could have been a real job. People tend to say cartoons are for kids; they forget animation is not a genre but a technique.
Where can you see me or my work in 2020?
On tv! The latest show I was working on aired at the beginning of the year in the US, so hopefully it will arrive soon in other Countries, too!
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?
If you’re really passionate about something, it’s hard to forget about it and put it in a corner, that’s something that comes with you for your whole life.
