The Heroine’s Journey of Cécile Carrère

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I get to meet people all the time. I get to think about what I am passionate about : Acting

What is my idea of happiness? My idea of happiness is not to have to worry about the future or be bothered by the past. Just to be able to enjoy what is there right here right now ! ( that’s so hard ! The work of a life time)

What is my greatest fear? To loose my child ….and also rats ! ( but that’s not rational )

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I would have to admit that I am not fond of how much anger I carry around. When I sink into negativity and self doubt. In a word the dark side of myself.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I admire all the persons I feel comfortable and at ease with. A whole bunch of actors and actress ( too many to mention). But the most inspiring person ( in every way ) I have ever met is Jordan Beswick ! He inspired me to do what I do today. And he is the wisest person I have known on planet Earth.

What is my greatest extravagance? Hum …I don’t know ?? … Raising a child in the world we live in ?!

On what occasion would I lie? In order not to hurt someone or to protect his or her life maybe … but I must admit I HATE LIES !!

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? When I can’t seem to find a way to help the person who came to see me.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? Every day of work is great and I always feel happy and joyful. My work feels me with gratitude and energy. When I feel the happiest is every time someone reaches out to me to let me know that I have helped them. Or to let me know that they got a part or enjoyed their work better than ever.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I don’t know. You ‘ll have to ask the people around me what they would like to see changed about me. I am pretty comfortable with myself even with my flaws. I have lived with them for sooo long now I would miss them ! Although yes I could do with thinner thighs and arms !

What is my greatest achievement in work? To have started from scratch and to see and hear people get the word out that I am doing a great work 🙂

Where would I most like to live? Somewhere near the sea.

But to be honest I dream of being rich enough to go and stay as long as I want wherever I wish to go in the moment.

What is my most treasured possession? My thoughts and opinions and my free will.

What is my most marked characteristic? AHAHA Again you’ll have to ask my friends and family oh nooo yes I know (because they tell me but I don’t believe them) I grumble and bitch a lot !

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Every theater or cinema I go to. Also the parc near where I live Les Buttes Chaumont. Otherwise I can of like to stay home 🙂

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? Anywhere quiet and with polite and agreeable waitressing ( which is rare in Paris 😉 But I really enjoy going out to my friend’s places and sit, drink or eat and talk for hours.

What books influenced my life and how? So many.
From an early age : Vipère au poing ( Hervé Bazin ) Le petit Nicolas
( Sempé et Goscinni )
Les liaisons dangereuses ( Choderlos de Laclos) I guess because it was
when I first discovered how people and characters could be so
complex, ambivalent and multilayered…
Berenice ( Racine ) I just remember finishing the book in the toilet and
crying my eyes out 🙂
Les femmes savantes ( Molière ) never gets old…
The Harry Potter saga (JK Rowling) because well I just can’t believe
someone has an imagination this big … I envy her
Later on , ssoooo many selfcare and personal development books …
because I enjoy it
La conjuration des imbéciles (John Kennedy Toole)
So many others I can’t think of right now …

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Oooh that is so hard to answer to. Could I at least listen to a play list ?!The Beatles / Dolly Parton / Leonard Cohen / Chopin / Debussy / Michael Jackson / George Michael / Jacques Brel /Rufus Wainwright / ABBA / Serge Gainsbourg /ohhh that question is killing me 🙂 My last day would have to be so long !!!

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I like SHRECK a lot 🙂 I guess because he is not just quite what you just think he is ( that is to say an ogre ). I like the idea that every one is a little more and different that what the majority of people sees in them…

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Both my parents. My son. All the other people I know who struggle with whatever and still manage not to hurt anyone and still contribute to make life easier for everyone else.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Oh I don’t know … Okay … « What’s eating Gilbert Grape » It was one of my first shock as a teenager and it stayed with me since 🙂

What role play stories in my life and work? Stories are more than essential in my life and in my work ! It is what allows me to work with the actors to create the life of the stories some people write.

Stories are where it all begins for actors … they have to create the life that comes with the story. They have to embody the stories and the words written by the authors … so yes it  means a great deal to me !

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? It means hard work to believe in yourself and to keep on going, even though you get hurt and crashed over the course of your existence… I guess to me it would mean RESILIENCE.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My dear friends I have had for over 20 years now. They know who they are.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2022? I prefer to let and trust life to show me the way to meet great people. Like it did in the past years. It is one thing to dream and fantasize about stuff and another to grab the opportunity to really discover the people and adventures that life put in your way. That being said I wouldn’t mind if Pedro Almodovar needed my contribution to his work !! 😉

What project, in 2022, am I looking forward to work on? Continuing to develop my activity as an acting coach, maybe work with children on set … I don’t know… we’ll see. Contribute to the association we are creating with a bunch of other acting coaches called iACT ( international actors’ coaches together)

Where can you see me or my work in 2022?

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? Well it means just that ! I guess passion never fades if it’s passion. It’s different from interest or need. It should be for free like the sentence I love you for free ! It’s the passion that gives you the fuel to continue so there is no need for retirement.

Which creative professionals should Peter invite to tell their story? Well… Jordan Beswick / Tatiana Gousseff / Chloe Hollings / and all the others who would hate me for not mentioning them 😉

How can you contact me? 😉
