The Heroine’s Journey of Luisa De Santi

  • What is the best thing that I love about my work?
The best thing is the possibility to transform ideas and dreams in real objects. This ability gives me a feeling of freedom and emotion.

  • What is my idea of perfect happiness?

The equilibrium between dreams and reality, the armony of feeling connected with everything that surrounds me, knowing that I am a small part of an organism that comprehends everything and everyone.

  • What is my greatest fear?
From a work perspective, my great fear is to be out-of-focus and to waste time and energy, as sometimes I tend to be distracted. From a personal perspective, I fear diseases and disabilities: I don’t know if I’d have enough energy to face them.

  • What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
The fact that I didn’t understand earlier what really interests me. I’ve been unmethodical for a long time, but I think that all the experiences I had, even the most senseless, have been useful in some way. Basically I am sorry for not embracing a vegan and healthy lifestyle before, it would be better for my clarity of mind, my efficency and my well-being.

  • What is my greatest extravagance? Someone could say having green hair for a long time, but now I say: keeping my hair of my natural colour.

  • On what occasion would I lie?
To avoid something worse, to avoid making someone suffer for nothing.

  • What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life? I have no role models, I learn daily from everyone. I am inspired by the stories of people that demonstrate perserverance, strenght, consistency, integrity, devotion and generosity.

  • What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
Having to spend so much time sitting in front of a PC writing, correcting drafts, answering email and messages. I hate to stay indoors and to be inactive.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? When I was contacted to work as a designer and especially for my commitment for animal rights.

  • If I could, what would I change about myself? If possible, I’d like to be faster. I’d like to have the ability to make my creations in less time. I cannot stretch the day-time, so I should be quicker.

  • What is my greatest achievement in work? Linking work and passion: using my work skills to inform people on animal rights, but I think that I still have to reach my greatest achievement

  • What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
The seafront, for the colours of the sky and the sea especially at dawn or dusk. In my city we have nice sunny days in winter too, and the colours are wonderful. The Carso upland in the hinterland of the city is a great inspiration too, so rich in different colours during every season.

  • What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? I have two favourites places, one of the day and one for the night. The one for the night is a small bistrot in one of the most popular area of the city, a very special placed, all decorated in white and blue and run by a very special woman. The one for the day is a coffee-shop in one of the most famous places of the city, near Piazza Unità d’Italia. Both places offer only vegan food, obvously.

  • Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I feel lucky as I have many friends both online and in real life that support me and follow my work! I had the opportunity to have help and support from companies that produce yarns and organizers of craft and creativity events.

  • Whom would I like to work with in the future? I have no doubt. Speaking of fiber art, Nick Cave. Speaking of fashion Missoni!

  • What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on? I’d like to experiment in the field of the 3D wearable art mixing crochet and knit techniques, but that’s more passion that work.
