The Heroine’s Journey of Sara Mitola

What is the best thing that I love about my work? It gives me purpose. It is a way to be present to myself, authentic and heard.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? A place with no judgment.

What is my greatest fear? To waste time and opportunities.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? My self-criticism. Sometimes my low self-esteem and low confidence stop me from doing great things. I do recognize it but I hate when I cannot change it.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? My teachers. Good teacher are esential. They have great responsibilities in their hands. I almost quit dancing because of the wrong ones. No matter where I am in the world, their teaching will always resonate in my actions, and I will always admire their passion, dedication and sensitivity.

What is my greatest extravagance? Since the first time I left Italy, I have to take a plane and go away for few days, visit different cities, get lost somewhere, at least once every two months.

On what occasion would I lie? Argh… I really cannot lie, you can read it in my face (or my body).

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? The fact that is a “work”. And you have to monetize something which came so natural and instinctive from within.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? When I could recognize small progress in myself, my way of creating or my style.

If I could, what would I change about myself? As a dancer, I constantly look at myself in the mirror and for a long time I wish I could be thinner, with higher legs and a proper turn out. Then I figured out that those things would not make me any happier; I am here to create meaningful things, not beautiful ones.

What is my greatest achievement in work? I made it into the professional world when many people, more talented than I am, quit a long time ago. I feel blessed with what I have in the present moment, with my resilience and ambition.

Where would I most like to live? I lived in a lot of places and Holland has been my favourite so far. But the truth is that the perfect place to live is the one I can share with my loved ones.

What is my most treasured possession? My pets.

What is my most marked characteristic? I think my hair .or my temperament

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The park of my hometown at night, empty and quiet.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? A coffee place, which reminds me a foreign city.

What books influenced my life and how? The little Prince (when I was a kid my mum used to read it before bedtime. Each story in the book is dedicated to an important event or people I met during my life until now). On the Road (gave it to me at my 18th birthday party by my cousin who always inspired me to travel as much as she does).

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Everything composed by my (boy)friend.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Batman ahah

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Kind people. People who helps people in needs. People who live the life they envision for themselves.

What role plays art in my life and work? “Art is the best way to heal yourself” It’s my motto.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My mum, my boyfriend, my family and my best friends. I love you for that.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2019/2020?  Way too many.

What project, in 2019/2020, am I looking forward to work on? My duo with Giuseppe Sorressa. We are finally understanding the best way to create and promote our work. We are producing our self from nothing: no support, no money. It’s been a big challenge and risk, but I am so excited to keep creating and travelling with our project.

Where can you see me or my work in 2019/2020? You will know it soon on my pages.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? Passion will grow and die with us.
