The Heroine’s Journey of Grazia Amelia Bellitta

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

Time. Me taking my time back. Giving space to what you have inside and then translating it into ”image”. Involves listening and it takes time.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

Always i find a path that is akin to what are my passions. I think that every person is predestined to something especial. To them and to me, I wish we find our own way. To discover a new happiness made by ourselves.

What is my greatest fear?

The immobility, the passive expectation, because it determines a settling. No one should ever lose the strength to find itselves. Everybody has to give itselves what we really need to be happy.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I certainly deplore distraction, the one that distances me from my centre and that does not lead me to indulge my soul in a natural way.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

I could name artists, musicians and great minds who, surely, inspire me… But the only person who has great impact on my life and therefore my profession is my grandmother Amelia. A woman of great strength, the source of my strength.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I feel like a witch who escaped the Inquisition.

On what occasion would I lie?

If I have to lie, i stutter. The only time I would lie to me it would serve me a very short smile.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Having to be the entrepreneur of myself. I’m not a good seller, I just want to be authentic.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

During my installation, a child screamed: “you built something that links up with dreams and it makes my dots connect inside”. The project was called “Io sono un Onironauta”, but he did not know it. It made me fool of joy.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

Emotion, I wish it was measured at certain moments by force.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

When, in front of my work, the viewer feels my silence, which is not empty.

Where would I most like to live?

On Mars, with David Bowie, or somewhere that looks like it.

What is my most treasured possession?

My emotions that sometimes I would like to change. But it’s only thanks to tachycardia that I learned calmness.

What is my most marked characteristic?

My patience, damn it.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

I find inspiration in the light of my city. Salento and Lecce, have a light that gives me breath.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

The popular winery and caterpillars makes me feel at home.

What books influenced my life and how?

-”La Camera Chiara” and “Frammenti di un Discorso Amoroso” – Roland Barthes

-L’Erotismo – Bataille

-Cromofobia – Batchelor

-L’Estetica del Vuoto –  Giangiorgio Pasqualotto

-Jung (in any form)

If I think about my life I could go on. Every period has a reference book.

Who are my favorite writers?

I don’t like charts. However, I always look for some affinity during the period I live. And I fall in love everytime. Now Roland Barthes is back, but in a while he could be Jean Luc Nancy.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

I have died at least 5 times. Even before David Bowie recorded Lazarus. Despite my great love for music, on my last day I would like to listen only to my dying breath.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

Eric Draven

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

My grandparents

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

Here too the list is really long. Without thinking much about… Elephant Man by Lynch.

In a while I could mention Ingmar Bergman, Alain Resnais, Woody Allen or Fellini or…

What role plays art in my life and work?

I really think everything.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

My Cat.

Whom would I like to work with in 2020?

With people and artists of hight level and artist that I esteem.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2020?

Ordinary people on wonderful journeys and important stories that can give me ideas for my personal and artistic growth.

What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on?

In particular a sensory installation with circuits that will generate sounds and signs.

In general I put the heart into every project and i am always excited before I start.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?

Something delicate that I try to make unbreakable because essential.
