The Heroine’s Journey of Sara Menegazzi

What is the best thing that I love about my work?
There are many things I love about my work: first of all, the creation of the idea, which includes the process of research and reworking. Then the exchange of opinions that comes after,  an interesting source of food for thought.

What is my idea of happiness?

Happiness for me is balance and warmth, which are the result of a constant commitment to yourself.
What is my greatest fear?
The stagnation, not proceeding, not growing. I’m a very curious person and I feel uncomfortable staying still.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
Never loving myself enough and thinking more about my failures than my achievements, but I’m working on it 🙂
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?
My admiration goes to many creative artists, always ready to bring revolution to their world in favor of the discovery. Real Explorers of Art!
What is my greatest extravagance?
I find myself too often throwing random quotes from the Simpsons, which often brings me awkward moments around newly met people.
On what occasion would I lie?
I have lied on many occasions and practically it never pays off, whatever the state of initial intentions, even good ones, that led you to do so.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
When I happen to work without a precise route. This doesn’t mean I do not tolerate exploration, however, it’s important to know you have a clear goal in mind. A lot of stress can be reduced with even a minimal structure, some planning and a precise focus on the goals, but it’s crazy to see how many companies have difficulties in understanding this thing and end by getting carried away by events which leads to many disappointments.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
With the studio I am collaborating with, Creative Up, I recently made a restyling of a mascot and one of my black and white drawings was given as a gift to children to colour. Seeing all their beautiful colorful drawings has filled me with happiness!
If I could, what would I change about myself?I would like to listen to myself more!

What is my greatest achievement in work?

Having finally decided to take the path of full-time freelancer. An independent career had always been in the back of my head, but fearing the failure, I always talked myself out of it. Now, I am proud to have finally taken this step forward.Where would I most like to live?
I would very much like to live for some time in the United States and in Japan, I hope to have the opportunity to do so!

What is my most treasured possession?
My comic book collections!

What is my most marked characteristic?
I think my addiction to the to-do list. My motto is: if in doubt, make a list. Aren’t you in doubt? Make a list, in case you forget something 🙂

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
I honestly don’t have a precise one, but the balcony of my house which overlooks a small field of barley is a great spot to be. Just by looking at it with a cup of coffee in my hand, a moment like that always gives me a positive boost of energy. But it could be the power of coffee hahaha

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
Since I am Italian and I am a pizza lover I cannot fail to mention Pizzeria Orsucci, near Prato Della Valle in Padua. If you happen to be in the area, try to have dinner there, they have the best pizza in town!

What books influenced my life and how?

I loved many books, but the ones that influenced me the most were: “Harry Potter” by J.K. Rowling, I am never tired of rereading the saga; “Can You Whistle, Johanna” by Ulf Stark, it always breaks my heart, but it also reminds me that time does not wait for no one. The last one I would like to mention is “Getting Things Done” by David Allen which I read a bit by accident, however, it completely revolutionized my work routine.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
I would listen to all the albums of Aerosmith, my favourite band.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
There are many, but the first place goes to Mulan, from Disney animated movie. You rock girl!

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

Same as the previous question, I would not be able to specify one, but the first place goes to my grandfather, who taught me to channel curiosity in the right way.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?
I would say “Airplane!”, it still makes me laugh even after so many times I have watched it.

What role plays art in my life and work?
The lead role; by having chosen to undertake an artistic career, art inspires me every day in my work. It’s fantastic!

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me?
It may seem trivial, but for me the meaning is literal: you tell your story, you don’t have to let others define you. It is you who look yourself in the mirror every single day, aware of your flaws and your strengths, of what you have done and what is still to be done, and this is the only thing that matters.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, a partner in crime?
My sister, of course. And she is the only one always appreciating my Simpsons quotes moments.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2020?
I would like to continue my ongoing collaborations and I would also like to be engaged in an interesting artistic project (whether of animation, gaming, or editorial), so if anyone has an idea to propose and is looking for some help, drop me a line!

Which people in my profession who can make a real difference in my creative career would I love to meet in 2020?
I have no exact names, but certainly, I would love to work with enthusiastic people with a vision and companies with a work ethic based on mutual respect, business is a dialogue between the parties.

What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on?
I have various ongoing projects for this year, I hope to be able to share something soon, so please stay tuned! ❤

Where can you see me or my work in 2020?

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?
Passion never retires means you can be passionate about something and do it until the very last day of your life. The important thing is to listen to yourself and always have that flame inside you alive and burning.

Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story?
I would like to mention the talented Gosia Dziuba, 3D interior designer (https://www.behance.net/dziubazzi_design).
