What is the best thing that I love about my work? Stories have always been part of me, of my life. I believe that through acting, writing and filmmaking I can live many different lives in the duration of one and thanks to my stories I can achieve the hearts of people. These arts make possible to explore our deepest recesses and understand the human soul like few other things can do. it’s a sort of magic, as if we had a time machine that allows us to travel not only through eras but inside the characters and their stories.
What is my idea of happiness? Happiness is not when we only see light. Happiness is when we appreciate our shadows and still manage to find a light through them. It is not made up of things, but of moments and who we choose to spend them with.
What is my greatest fear? Losing people that I love and not living my life to the fullest. And clowns! I hate clowns (thank you, Stephen King).
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I’m a perfectionist and sometimes it can be a kind of limitation. But I learned to manage it and to tell myself that compromise generates creativity. Perfection does not exist, the important thing is to put yourself out there and be willing to constantly learn, even and above all from your own mistakes.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? It’s impossible naming just one! I admire most people I have worked with, in particular Michelangelo Ingrosso, a great cinematographer and director of photography with whom I collaborate. I also admire and take as an example for my career several famous actors, filmmakers and writers: Leonardo Di Caprio, Kate Winslet, Emilia Clarke and Cillian Murphy are just some of them. Great artists and human being.
What is my greatest extravagance? Only one? I am really an extravagant person! Well, if I really have to choose one… I’m an old soul: I prefer corsets and long skirts to jeans and sneakers, and I’ve furnished my home with antiques like old typewriters, hourglasses, candles and even swords!
On what occasion would I lie? Many people think that actors know how to lie very well, but this is not the case! For me, acting is bringing out the truth. So, well… I’m a really bad liar. I’m like an open book, you would discover me immediately. It’s not for me.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? That it is an extremely difficult career to pursue. Many in Italy don’t even consider it a real job, and the thing I hate most is how much people underestimate the importance of stories and arts in general. Without them, what kind of world would it be?
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? When there is a great and emotional story to tell and I can collaborate with other excellent professionals who contribute to bring it to life.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I would like to be more decisive and confident in real life as I am on stage or in front of a camera. Especially when I have a romantic interest, I feel like a shy, awkward teenager again!
What is my greatest achievement in work? Being able to do my dream job is already an achievement in itself. I know that I still have a long way to go, certainly a life goal would be to get to the big screen telling a story that can have a positive impact to the public, and also work with artists that I respect a lot.
Where would I most like to live? I have always been fascinated by the United Kingdom and Ireland, I have no doubts about where I would move, if only I could! Maybe in a past life I was British, or Irish, or Scottish!
What is my most treasured possession? My creativity.
What is my most marked characteristic? I’m a really dramatic person. I abandon myself in stories, especially those without happy endings, and sometimes I let myself be overwhelmed by a gentle melancholy.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The narrow and medieval streets, the castle, the Italian theatre, the cemetery, the old library… I love all those places that smell of the past, where you can perceive the echo of ancient stories.
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? As Italian I have a moral duty to say pizza! But I am also a big tea addicted, at any time of the day. I go out for pizzas only for special occasions, but tea is a constant, for me. There is a delicious tea house called “You and Tea” in Ferrara that offers a big amount of tastes and choices.
What books influenced my life and how? I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter books. it’s a series that totally left a mark on me: I read them when I was a teenager, I didn’t have many friends at school, the fact that I had a creative mind led my classmates to bully me and make fun of me. So Harry Potter became my best friend and I took refuge in his stories whenever I was looking for a bit of magic. After playing the character of Lily, his mother, in my themed fanseries, every time I see Harry now I think of him as “my baby”! So it’s a story that I still carry inside me. Once a Potterhead, always a Potterhead, I guess. Or a Marauder!
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I often think about Death and dying, perhaps because Rosalie Graves, a character of my invention, that is a Victorian Gravedigger who speaks with the dead. Writing and acting in her clothes teaches me a lot about death, and also about life. It’s a hard choice, but I probably would listen “Dying is absolutely safe” by Architects.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Rose DeWitt Bukater in “Titanic” movie, Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones” and Lily Evans Potter in the Harry Potter series.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? I am the heroine of my own life, but if I have to choose another person, that’s my mother. She is most like a mentor for me and she an extraordinary woman, I learn so much from her about value, patience, and having a gentle but brave heart. She is also very mysterious and I wish I could understand her better, I guess she really has a “deep ocean of secrets” in her heart. I totally admire her and I hope to make her proud of me.
Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? “Titanic” by James Cameron, of course. This is the movie that literally changed my life: when I was 11 I went to the cinema for watching it and I was amazed by how many people took part on it, working together to bring on the screen that story that moved me so much. From that day my dream is to become “a name in the final credits”.
What role play stories in my life and work? Of course stories are the main character of my entire life. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? There couldn’t be a more fitting definition, for me. After all, I write and direct the stories I play in. But beyond this, I think that each of us, when we immerse ourselves in a story, empathize with the protagonists precisely because this is the greatest power of stories: telling something far away and yet so close to our heart. We should always remember that we are the protagonist and director of our own life. When we take a decision, actually we are writing a new chapter of our story. No one should ever relegate
themselves to the role of a simple extra.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Uhm… me, myself and I! Ahah. And all the characters in my mind. But, in real life, my family.
Which people or companies would I like to work with? I’m open to every kind of collaboration that consent to my career goes on. Dreaming big, there’s is a long list of brilliant filmmakers and artists, of course. For example, I am a huge fan of British Period Dramas, like Peaky Blinders or Downton Abbey, so a dream come true would be working for BBC. I also admire the Warner Bros and HBO series like Harry Potter movies and the tv series Game of Thrones, being part of that stories would be a life goal and meeting J.K. Rowling would be a real honour too. I would also dream to play in the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, one day. I would also love act with Cillian Murphy and Leonardo Di Caprio. I have to admit it, I’m not a big fan of Italian cinema, but I would like to work with someone talented and, together, be able to restore value to this art in our country too.
What project am I looking forward to work on? I have several ideas for the immediate future: I would like to write and publish some novels that I have in my drawer, for example one is the gothic story about Rosalie Graves that I already mentioned here. I am also planning to collaborate again with some artists that helped me with “Lily and the Marauders” – my potterhead fanseries – in creating original stories for the screen. And I am organizing to record an online acting and filmmaking course. We’ll see!
