The Heroine’s Journey of Gianna Internò

What is the best thing that I love about my work? My creativity, which I make available to the world. My ability to read a person’s soul and to design in accordance. To derive inspiration from nature and to translate it into fashion. To highlight the human figure through colours, modelling, embroidery, fabrics, decorations.

What is my idea of happiness? To me, happiness equals freedom. Freedom to express myself through art, communication, my body. Freedom to travel, to get to know new places, different habits, to relate to other visions of life, to deal with people of different nationalities, freedom to dispose of my own time.

What is my greatest fear? The loss of my freedom.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? My excessive attachment to people, objects, places and situations – although this trait belongs more to my past,

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? I admire my mentor and teacher Shingo Sato, who taught me how to do origami on fabric. I certainly have admiration for all those artists who radiate beauty and joy.

What is my greatest extravagance? A recent extravagance of mine is giving car rides to strangers or helping elderly people with heavy shopping bags. It’s something I enjoy doing: I basically trust others and acts of kindness always do good to the planet: I believe in a loving and ecological world!

On what occasion would I lie? I am brutally honest: I tell the truth even though it may be an uncomfortable truth. As the Gospel of John has it “…and the truth shall make you free.”: to me, truth is a further feature of freedom and as such, unavoidable.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I dislike performing my work without contemplating such factors as artistic value, craftsmanship, originality and dedication.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I was so happy in London working for couture fashion houses, working alongside designers and helping them achieve their dream! On one occasion, I asked myself: “What would I wish if I were in this designer’s shoes?” and I answered: “Finish the whole collection!” Timing in couture, especially before the fashion shows, is always tight and giving my all during that time was valuable to me.

If I could, what would I change about myself? Nothing, I love and accept myself as I am, with strengths and weaknesses, while trying to improve a bit every day.

What is my greatest achievement in work? Being able to work in London in a fashion house. I learnt sewing at 17 against my will because I liked drawing better: I did good at school but was bad at keeping deadlines. I followed the TR Cutting School course by myself, online: on that occasion I overcame limiting beliefs about myself, because I was so amazed at the result of my work. With the passing time I have realised that through matching my brain and my golden hands, success comes naturally.

Where would I most like to live? Without a doubt in nature! I love living by the sea or in the countryside. I love waking up with the first rays of dawn, or the chirping of birds, or the sound of sea.

What is my most treasured possession? My family: parents, sisters, brother, grandchildren, I even still have a 90-year-old grandfather who teaches me so much! And my 15-year-old cat Mia who teaches me unconditional love.

What is my most marked characteristic? I will name two: generosity and willpower in doing things.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I currently live in a small town in the province of Lecce, Salento, Italy. Not so much my town but the whole of Salento offers a wonderful landscape, along the shore and inland.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? During the Summer, at venues facing the sea, with their special atmosphere.

What books influenced my life and how? Without a doubt, Gianluca Gotto’s books! I recommend Deep as the sea, light as the sky, Something wonderful ever happens. Others are: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, Harmony by Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov, The Prophecy of the Curandera by Hernàn Huarache Mamani,

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I honestly don’t know if I would listen to music, I love silence and I would be in contemplation of it, maybe.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? As a child, I loved the cartoon HELLO SENDYBELL, it was about a girl who becomes a reporter and travels around the world with her camper van, autonomous and independent.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? In my opinion those who do acts of kindness, those who share their food, who feed the strays animals, who help others within their possibilities are heroes, those who spread the truth – one name for all: JULIAN ASSANGE.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? PRAY EAT LOVE – especially for women or to awaken the feminine side in both men and women, SERENDIPITY, to learn how to rely on the invisible and ALL THE WORLD IS A GARDEN, to understand the power of children and flowers.

What role play stories in my life and work? I am convinced that nothing happens by chance: every event – even the worst – carries its own deep meaning. The events of my life made the person I am now, conscious and increasingly free.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ tell to me? They suggest that I am a simple, selfless woman, a lover of nature, animals and children, in search of truth, harmony and beauty. They suggest that I am a simple, selfless woman, a lover of nature, animals and children, in search of truth, harmony and beauty.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, accomplice? I can only mention myself.

Which people or companies would I like to work with? SHINGO SATO, SUBTRACTION CUTTING by JULIAN ROBERTS, AKRIS, DESIGNERS GUILD, LUCIA MANTERO, CHANEL, DIOR, HERMIONE DE PAULA, CAROLINA HERRERA.

What project am I looking forward to work on? I can’t wait to work on botanical prints, to create more and more eco-friendly products inspired by nature.

Where can you see me or my work? Instagram: Giann.design – Facebook: Gianna Internò

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? Passion is something I cannot explain: my hands operate on their own like masters of an ancient knowledge, when I draw I feel electricity flowing through myself can something like that just retire? I doubt!

Which creative professionals should Peter invite to tell their story? MASHA TSYVAREVA, MARCO MISSINATO, PAOLA CRISOSTOMO, PINA SALERNO, GIANLUCA CONTALDO, MARCO PINO, SALVATORE BRIGANTE, LORENZO MAGNOLO, SARA SUBIACO, ARIANNA PINO.
