The Heroine’s Journey of Clotilde Cavaroc

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

I can say Spielberg is a collegue! Jokes aside, I like engaging in a constant creative process, immersing myself in writing short films, series, posts, chronicles and theater plays (love humor & comedies). Each project can spread over months. The thrill lies in the dynamic exploration of plots and characters, embracing the pain and excitement intertwined in the creative journey. Finding satisfaction in the evolving nature of projects, I’ve come to accept that perfection is unreachable. This acknowledgment serves as a driving force, fueling my passion for creativity. This state clearly contrasts with my otherwise impatient behaviour…

What is my idea of happiness?

Floating in a donkey milk bath without my skin getting withered. More generally, I believe that joy becomes reachable when one’s navigate life with unwavering self-confidence. Embracing your choices, shielded from the harsh gaze of judgment, lays the foundation for a contented existence. Otherwise I like dogs… they make me happy (only when they neither drool nor bark…). They are so cute and loyal. I can feel a « canine connection ». Actually my idea of happiness is floating in a donkey milk bath without my skin getting withered like that of Sharpei ! There are already far too many animals in this bath…

What is my greatest fear?

Turkeys scare me. I’ll never consider adopting one. Otherwise I fear loneliness. Life lacks flavor when not shared. The ultimate nightmare would be facing loneliness with a giggling turkey.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

Intense and i guess too demanding. I can be rude. It seems challenging for those who share my life.

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?

I like the work of Albert Dupontel, Julie Delpy, Valérie Lemercier.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I’ve resigned from my job to play jokes in comedy clubs and I traveled alone in India. I could have combined the two but I am much less funny in Hindi.

On what occasion would I lie?

When I play « Werewolves ». I swear ! (fingers crossed behind the back). Also if my future husband asks me if I will still love him without his beard too. I would say : « I love you unconditionally, my darling, you know it » (fingers crossed behind the back. Poor guy !).

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Filter coffee (I confess, screenwriter is not a very lucrative job). Also the lack of recognition. Unfortunately writers do not have dreamlike working conditions in France. The arrival of artificial intelligence is also scaring… But I can’t play the ostrich indefinitely or giggle like a turkey.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

Making my first short film « Toutes les autres » in 2022 about sexual assistance was thrilling! I enjoyed every step, from writing to post-production, relishing the artistic direction short films allow. Working with talented comedians and learning about filming was very statisfying. Amid sunny days in Paris, I biked around, feeling like a bumblebee in a flower patch.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I’m always congested, so my nose. No… I wish I could be more relaxed. Accepting the loss of control. Being present in the moment, even while contemplating the past or future, is a skill I aspire to cultivate.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

I wrote a one-woman-show (Elevée en plein air) that I performed for four years everywhere across France including Avignon.

I explore Paris by bike, going across every street. Each one serves as an inspiration for me. But I would say Saint-Ouen fleas market. A treasure of curiosities… and kebabs.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Not at my place as you understood. I recently discovered the Swedish Institute, where you can enjoy good coffee and pastries. I also like the Asian canteens in Paris 13.

What books influenced my life and how?

When I was around 13 years old I read « Flash », the story of Charles Duchaussois, a man who fell into drugs during a road trip in Katmandu. It was the first book I read without interruption, changing my perception of reading, which I used to find boring. Since then, I’ve explored other books that have enriched my mind. Surprisingly, I’ve never dabbled in drugs, except wine, beer, rum, gin, tequila, liquor… Oops, I guess I might be an alcoholic.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

A never-ending piece of music to postpone the hour of my death. Otherwise « Perfect day » (Lou Reed) and «The show must go on » (Queen) of course.

Rose in the movie « Titanic » because so much happens to her in those three hours. What a lucky girl !

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

People who open oysters without hurting themselves. Oh, and those who are not screen addict. Congrats !

Hard question. If I had children, I might make them watch « Titanic » (again) to deter any requests for sightseeing cruises. Alternatively, « Anaconda » could serve as a cautionary tale.

What role play stories in my life and work?

Being a writer means stories occupy a significant part of my daily life, seeping into both dreams and nightmares. I enjoy turning my life into a movie, but it can be quite exhausting, especially when I perform my own acrobatics (Ouch !). I bump into everything it’s infernal.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me?

Shit ! It explains why I always slip on banana skins… I am afraid I might be the heroine of an absurd comedy.
