Shelli Brunswick is a prominent figure in space exploration and innovation. Both of them serve as my inspiration and role models. Their dedication and achievements motivate me to pursue excellence in the field.
What is my greatest extravagance? My greatest extravagance is investing in self-development, education, and training in new skills. Regardless of the cost and time involved, I pursue these opportunities passionately. If I am passionate about something, I commit to it wholeheartedly. On what occasion would I lie? I tend to lie mostly when I don’t like something or need to excuse myself. Using lies as a strategy allows me to excuse myself politely. This approach helps me avoid uncomfortable situations. Although not ideal, it seems to be an effective way for me to handle such moments. What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Sometimes, collecting spatial data manually requires moving from one point to another in harsh environments. This can be quite uncomfortable and exposes me to unknown and unpredictable environmental hazards. Despite the challenges, the importance of accurate data collection drives me to persevere. The experience can be daunting, but it is essential for the success of the project. Ultimately, navigating these difficult conditions is a crucial part of the job.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I was overjoyed when I first met an astronaut, Dakao Doi, in 2010. This memorable encounter took place at one of the United Nations Space Science and Technology Centres, the African Regional Space Science and Technology Education in English, located in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Meeting such an esteemed figure in space exploration filled me with immense happiness. It remains one of the highlights of my career.
If I could, what would I change about myself? If I could change one thing about myself, it would be my tendency to trust and love too much. Love can sometimes be blind, leading me to make decisions without deeper investigation. This has occasionally caused me to take the wrong paths. Where would I most like to live? I would like to live in Botswana, my country of birth. I love my country and want to be a role model to others by empowering them. What project am I looking forward to work on? As a space scientist my interest in on zero and micro gravity projects. I am looking forward to working on a zero gravity and microgravity project focused on plant seeds and plant growth. Exploring plant growth in these conditions is a vital area of research. Projects like the Veggie Project and the Advanced Plant Habitat on the International Space Station study how microgravity affects plant development and nutrition. The Biomass Production System and the Seedling Growth Series focus on the genetic and molecular responses of plants to microgravity. Plant Habitat-02 continues this research by examining root behavior and plant development in space. These studies are essential for understanding how to grow plants for long-term space missions and sustainable life support systems.
