The Heroine’s Journey of Liz Hogg

What is the best thing that I love about my work?
There is no end to learning and self improvement

What is my idea of happiness?
Starting a family, love flowing freely, not “working”, just doing music stuff I want to do and focusing on momhood

What is my greatest fear?
Being unloved & alone

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
Being closed off

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?
John Frusciante

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
The profession being undervalued often in the eyes of the world

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
Now, NYC or wherever I am

If I could, what would I change about myself?
Be simpler

What is my greatest achievement in work?
Self discipline and finishing things

Where would I most like to live?
NYC, probably back where I came from in Park Slope if I could afford a brownstone

What is my most treasured possession?
My classical guitar

What is my most marked characteristic?
Other people have said my intelligence so I’ll go with that

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
I have many, but I think Battery City/Financial District is my favorite area overall

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?
DiFara’s has the best pizza so I’d probably have to go with that. I don’t drink currently but during times I did 2020-2024, anyone who wanted to meet me came to either Cheers & Villa Erasmo in Middle Village or The Rusty Nail & Westwood Bar in Ditmas; many gin & tonics were consumed at the Rusty Nail especially & some good memories made…

What books influenced my life and how?
I think 19th century Russian literature formed me so much, it’s almost in a bad way, because I’m always expecting things to turn out how they do in the books. But 2025 NYC is just not the same. Some amazing books though: anything by Dostoyevsky, lots of Tolstoy, Turgenev, etc. I’ve read that exclusively since I was 15 or so, but before that, I remember being impacted a lot by some Dickens & Frank McCourt.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
My favorite album: Niandra LaDes & Usually Just A T-Shirt

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Natasha in War & Peace

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
Lenny Bruce, Dostoyevsky, John Frusciante, Glenn Gould, The Beatles, any good music I like. I’m pretty ignorant about other fields lol but there are probably some good scientists and philanthropists that should be on there too…

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?
My favorite movie is Godfather I so I’d need to say that if only 1.

What role play stories in my life and work?
A huge role. Sometimes I feel like I’m only a character in a story and my life is just being written by some other force. Then to make it make sense I try to connect it with other stories. I always try to take over as author though but it’s difficult.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ mean to me? That you have control. I don’t know if I agree though.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I’d have to give my mom credit here. I grew up with 0 musicians in my family and I always want to run things by people whose opinion I value & respect, experts so to speak. But I don’t really have access in any way that feels comfortable. So things just go through my mom. And she’s done her best despite not being a musician. Reading important emails before sending, listening to things, giving me eye cream, telling me about skincare, etc.

Which people or companies would I like to work with?
I would like to try to further my education with a DMA at some point and if I need to do any teaching, having the opportunity at a good school in NYC would be ideal. Otherwise, any labels or other avenues to promote future music I release.

What project am I looking forward to work on?
When I wrote my most recent album, “Goodbye World, Hello Something” I discovered a new method of writing that is very fast and even easy. I now think I can write music a lot faster. So I’m looking forward to releasing more albums of my own music I’ve written more often.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?
To me that translates as love never dies.

Diana Ross
Meredith Brooks
Sharon Van Etten
Nina Persson
Kate Bush
Kristiana Pärn
