The Heroine’s Journey of Lilith Macias

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

What I love most about my job is that I get paid to do what I love. It’s not just a career; it’s the culmination of my ideas, my experiences, and everything that has shaped me as a person. It allows me to portray different characters, create, explore, and play. Because I have fun in every single moment, I enjoy it so much that when I hear ‘It’s a wrap,’ I wonder how time flew by so fast. I want more! Give me more! I love the way time stands still until only I exist in that moment. There is nothing else— only the present, and that intimate instant between the art I create and the purest, rawest expression of my soul.

What is my idea of happiness?

Happiness is a complex concept. For me, it is something that lives within us; we cannot find it outside ourselves because it is a vital energy. While some see it as mere optimism, it is actually the light we radiate—an energy that interacts with everything around us. Happiness is the very essence of the present. We all possess it, yet we often forget that fulfillment doesn’t stem from external achievements, nor is it merely a distant goal to be attained. Rather, it is a constant presence living deep within you.

What is my greatest fear?

To me, fear is nothing more than a mental obstacle. While its primary purpose is a basic survival instinct, in practice, it often just freezes you in your tracks—filling your mind with anxiety and clouding your judgment with negativity. Of course, fear is a natural human condition, but I refuse to let it define me. For a long time, I lived under its control: afraid of expressing myself, of being who I am, of rejection, and of falling short of my goals. Ultimately, those inhibitions served no purpose. On the contrary, they pushed me to dismantle the barriers in my mind and break free from the imaginary chains that I once believed were holding me back.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I wouldn’t say I dislike this part of myself, but it is something I have to manage constantly. Having been diagnosed with OCD, I use medication to help maintain my balance—preventing me from feeling overwhelmed by a need for order, cleanliness, and other aspects of the disorder. While some view it as a positive trait and others see it as a burden, I simply try to embrace everything that shapes me as an individual.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

I think Natalie Portman and Guillermo del Toro are two people with whom I would love to have a conversation. I am fascinated by their experiences and their unique perspectives, and I would want to discuss what their journeys were truly like and whether they actually feel successful in their own lives. I want to hear about the obstacles they’ve faced and, above all, whether they would change a single thing if they could start all over again.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything I dislike about my job. In the film industry and across various art forms, we are all connected; we look out for one another because we know how demanding and complex the journey can be. Of course, there will always be the occasional difficult personality, but ultimately, that doesn’t affect my performance or my passion for the work.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

Whether I’m developing my own short film or working on my next project, I rarely follow a rigid plan. To me, every creative endeavor feels like bringing life into the world —much like a mother who cherishes, nurtures, and loves what she has created. Watching my art grow, seeing myself move in new directions, and constantly discovering the unknown is a unique experience; it is like being both the mother and the child, simultaneously protective and playfully curious. In my eyes, there are no prejudices or rigid social concepts—only the love and passion that drive me through my art.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I wouldn’t change a thing. I am proud of who I am, because every experience that has shaped me—and continues to do so—is exactly what makes me unique. We all carry both light and darkness within us, and I have learned to embrace every part of myself.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

I have realized that true success comes from within. For me, success is accepting myself for who I am, rather than conforming to what others expect me to be. Social validation isn’t what fills my heart; instead, it’s the ability to touch the souls of my audience. To convey something timeless that stays with you—to offer a piece of my passion, my vision, and my ideas while helping you explore your own—that is what fulfills me. My greatest success is being able to communicate, often without words, those feelings you once forgot or thought you could no longer feel.”

Where would I most like to live?

I would love to live in a cold place where the sun rises but never burns—where clouds gather to form shapes in a restless sky. I imagine a place where the sea is cold, flowers bloom in the mist, and the air is thick with humidity and the scent of endless trees. I want to be surrounded by miles of untouched nature, where the sounds of the wild create a constant melody. It might sound like a dream, but that is where I truly want to be.

What is my most treasured possession?

I don’t believe in possession; everything I own in this earthly realm will one day belong to someone else. Instead, I carry gratitude—a deep thankfulness toward life itself. I am grateful to live another day, to enjoy a meal, and to simply exist. The one certainty for all humans is death, yet we often take for granted that we deserve what we have or that it will last forever. Because I know this isn’t the case, I am grateful for every moment—from a stranger’s smile on the street to the smallest gesture of kindness. I am thankful for the opportunity to share my energy and transform it into something better.

What is my most marked characteristic?

My most marked characteristic is my passion and my refusal to settle for the status quo. I am driven by a constant desire to improve, as doing things well provides me with a deep sense of fulfillment. While this drive borders on obsession and perfectionism, it is an intrinsic part of who I am. If I am going to commit to something, it must meet my standards—which are, admittedly, very high. I need to look at my work and know that I did everything in my power to achieve excellence. I push myself relentlessly until I am satisfied with the result; I am tenacious, and once I have a goal in sight, nothing can stop me.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

The cemetery and my home are the two places that bring me the most peace in this city. They are sanctuaries where everything flows and the outside noise fades away, leaving only the movement of my thoughts as I write or create. In these moments, I disconnect from the world and time ceases to exist; it is just me and the present, much like when I am working. It is a sensation of being physically grounded in a location, yet using that space merely as a tool to connect with my own being.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Mesa Coyoacán: This Mexican restaurant transports me back to the comforting dishes of my childhood in Mexico. Believe me, finding a place in this city that captures the true essence of authentic Mexican cuisine is a rare find. Il Mulino: This Italian spot also reminds me of my family’s cooking—especially my Nonna. It’s a place that reconnects me with her.

What books influenced my life and how?

The books that have had the greatest influence on my life are Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, Dante’s Divine Comedy, and The Kybalion. I read these three works when I was seventeen, and they left a profound impact on me. Having started reading at a young age, I’ve always seen books as more than just words on paper; they are stories, ideas, and the vital link between the knowledge you absorb and how that knowledge shifts your perspective of the world.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

I find I have no singular anthem; instead, I prefer to lose myself in the lived breath of a concert hall, where the strike of a piano key or the swell of a symphony speaks for itself.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

I don’t see the need to turn to legends or heroes in fantasy when my greatest heroine is my mother: the woman whose strength gave me life and whose grace showed me the way.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

My mother gifted me this beautiful life, sheltering me beneath her wing with a devotion that never wavered. Her smile remains my daily North Star, inspiring me to strive for a higher version of myself. To me, she is everything: the morning sun that calls me to wake, the melody that stirs my soul, and a source of strength as enduring as the tree we planted from a single seed of love.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a masterclass in the devotion of craft. Every frame is a testament to his passion—from the meticulous set design to the deliberate choreography of color and form. Beyond its visual splendor lies a narrative of profound depth; it is a film that invites endless revisits, each time revealing new nuances of the soul’s inner connection and the haunting beauty found within mortality itself.

What role play stories in my life and work?

Stories reside within me, a constant companion to my travels. I find myself habitually drawn to the overlooked—the subtleties of human behavior and the silent languages spoken without words. To me, listening is an act of profound presence. When I craft my own narratives, I see a blank canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of my own soul, interwoven with the voices of those who are silenced by fear or circumstance. Every voice carries a weight of its own, and there is no greater honor than being the vessel for a heart’s deepest truth.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me?

I believe that being the storyteller of your life means acknowledging the balance between what we can change and what we must endure. We are not defined by what happens to us, but by how we recount the journey. In a world of variables, the one constant I control is my perspective—the unique, uncomplicated way I choose to see, and thus create, my reality.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

In this industry, it is never the work of a single soul; rather, it is we who are bound by a shared heartbeat—a passion for the craft that renders every contributor essential. Storytelling, at its core, is a collective pilgrimage, a chosen family where we sustain one another’s dreams. I am profoundly moved by those who have championed my vision and embraced the restless spirit of the artist: those ready to spread their wings toward the unknown, guided only by curiosity and the thrill of the journey. To every soul who has walked this path with me, my gratitude is eternal.

Which people or companies would I like to work with ?

My creative compass is guided by those who find beauty in the unconventional: the Gothic soul of Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton, the surreal depths of David Lynch, and the transcendent animation of Hayao Miyazaki. I find deep resonance in the raw vulnerability of Natalie Portman’s performances and the bold, uncompromising spirit of A24 Productions. Together, they represent the kind of storytelling I strive for—where the fantastical meets the profoundly human.

What project am I looking forward to work on?

At this moment, my creative horizon is defined by the birth of my first feature film—a project that carries the weight of my greatest aspirations. Alongside this, I am dedicated to the continuous rhythm of songwriting and the quiet discipline of the written word. Ultimately, my journey is leading me toward the screen, where I seek to inhabit a major role that challenges my craft and allows me to breathe life into a transformative story.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?

Passion is a flame that never fades; it possesses the spirit of a child—forever radiant, forever discovering, and perpetually awestruck by the world. It is the silent engine of our existence. When we create from a place of genuine love, the act of sharing our art becomes an eternal resonance—a joy that transcends time.

Which creative professionals should Peter invite to tell their story?

I think many of the people I would mention are dead, but I still think Piedad Bonnett should be invited to talk more about her heroine, Journey.
