Andrea DiFiore,
Artist and designer of nature inspired silk scarves.
What is the best thing that I love about my work?
That I am able to take my ideas and execute them into images. I
love the thinking process of composing elements and colors and
arranging them to form a completed artwork/design.
What is my idea of happiness?
Being submerged in warm, tropical waters. Maybe it’s because I
am a Pieces or I may be part mermaid? 😉
The rhythms of the waves and the aquamarine color of the water,
total bliss.
What is my greatest fear?
Losing my gifted, unique, imaginative mind.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
I take people at their word, I trust too much.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?
Miuccia Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Carolina Herrera, Simone
Leigh, Teresita Fernandez, Jenny Holzer
What is my greatest extravagance?
Monetarily? My Manhattan apartment that I bought myself as a
single mother. I also bought an aquamarine ring, my birthstone.
On what occasion would I lie?
I never feel the urge to lie, and sometime I am too outspoken, but
if I had to it would be to spare someone’s hurt feelings.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
When I am critical of my work and start to second guess it instead
of relying on my intuition.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
Right here, right now. I don’t need to languish in the past and
don’t know what the future will be, so I am content at this
moment creating my work.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
Occasionally self doubt rears its ugly head. I am very sensitive, I
think most artists are. The amygdala part of my brain runs high at
times, but it’s much more in control now that I work solely for
myself.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
I suppose my greatest achievements in my work would be that
women love my designs. They can wear my artwork and it makes
them look and feel beautiful.
I also have permanent artworks displayed at the United Nations
(FCU) building. And, as part of the beautification project in my
neighborhood, I was commissioned to paint two art benches.
They are permanently installed in Straus Square, in New York
City.
Where would I most like to live?
I live in NYC! I love my home town. When I am in my twilight
years I’d like to live somewhere tropical, surrounded by nature,
near the sea. Have a bird sanctuary.
What is my most treasured possession?
My independence.
What is my most marked characteristic?
Difficult to list just one, I will say my intuition and compassion.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
I love many places, one would be having a coffee in the Great
Hall Balcony at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another is
sitting in the orchestra seats at the Metropolitan Opera house
waiting for the curtain to rise.
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?
Unfortunately most of my favorite places are gone. I love Indian
food, and most asian foods, any good restaurant that prepares
their food fresh.
What books influenced my life and how?
As a child, I would say Kipling’s The Jungle Book. I love nature
and animals, I had great admiration for Mowgli.
As a student, De Beauvoir’s The Second Sex. Her brilliant mind
influenced me. She made clear that women should not be
“flattened into an object” by society and that we need to express
our creativity and be autonomous.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
Too many to list, but Nessun dorma (sung by Pavarotti of course)
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Lisbeth Salander, she is genius and a survivor.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
Louise Bourgeois, Jane Goodall, Jacques Cousteau
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?
Il Postino, Fanny and Alexander, Rear Window
What role plays art in my life and work?
I always considered myself an artist, I think like one. Creating is
what gets me out of bed in the morning. As an artist, we have
something to say and do so through our work. We can influence
people, make them move, that is quite powerful.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to
me?
We all have our own unique journey. The longer we live the more
our stories become compelling and exciting. I am still in the
process of telling my story.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
I would have to say my intelligent, beautiful, aspiring opera
singer daughter. She supports my work and assists me when she
can.
Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2020?
Prada, Gucci, Herme, Cavalli, The Leonardo DiCaprio
Foundation, Bergdorf/Goodman, Oceana, Dior.
Which people in my profession who can make a real difference
in my creative career would i love to meet in 2020?
Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Miuccia Prada, Marco Bizzarri
influencers such as Oprah Winfrey, Chiara Ferragni, Camila
Coelho, Maye Musk
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on?
I have an abundance of ideas in my head at all times. I am
designing more works, stay tuned.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?
Passion is the essence of my work, without it, there would be no
me. Everyday is a new day, a new colors, sites and sounds. How
could that ever retire?
I wrote and illustrated a children’s book that I turned into an
Ebook, see this link.
