What is the best thing that I love about my work? My favorite thing about my job is that it shows me what surrounds me from different perspectives. I like when people look at my paintings and start considering reality as a variable.
What is my idea of happiness? I never focused on happiness, I don’t even know if it really exists. There are moments of light-heartedness, of joy, of serenity, but happiness for me is an unreal and unattainable condition. And probably not quite as attractive. If we lived in a condition of complete perennial fulfillment it would be even boring.
What is my greatest fear? My biggest fear is that there will come a time when I will no longer be able to tame sadness, and then, sadness will begin to tame me.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Sometimes I’m too nihilistic, too strict. I wish I could be more hopeful and have more faith in mankind.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I admire those who do this profession seriously, with passion and with many sacrifices. Being an artist today is very far from the romantic idea that everyone has. There are not the beautiful and cursed artists that are seen in the films, but people who sacrifice all their time, their dreams, often even their affections to pursue what they have in mind. It is beautiful, but also very painful.
What is my greatest extravagance? I don’t really exist!
On what occasion would I lie? I always lie when instead of accepting an invitation by replying: “…. then I’ll join you!” and sometimes, when I say “I’m fine”.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Often it annoys me when those who observe my works ask me the meaning of a particular element, or the reason for that or that other color. I am not a speaker, I make pictures, I am not good at explaining them.
When and where was I the happiest, at work? A happy moment of my work is when I find the right harmony with the white space that I have in front of me and that I have to fill, with the music I’m listening and with my perfect solitude.
If I could, what would I change about myself? Let’s say that’s okay for this life, but in the next one I want giant boobs and a less complicated brain!
What is my greatest achievement in work? What is yet to come
Where would I most like to live? I am a citizen of the world, if it depended on me, we shouldn’t need a passport, I would live a couple of years in every city in the world.
What is my most treasured possession? My freedom.
What is my most marked characteristic? The fact that I always take a stand and always say my opinion..and maybe I say too many bad-words
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? My home-studio with the right music.
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? My home, with the right music and the right person.
What books influenced my life and how? The books I read do not influence my life, they simply broaden my reasoning. This is also true for the music that I listen and the films that I see. One of the books that I care a lot about is “The workshop of the senses” by Piero Camporesi.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? It is a difficult choice. I’d probably like to listen “Dancing to the end of love” by Leonard Cohen
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Mr Wolf in “Pulp Fiction” of Tarantino and Roma Garofolo in “Mamma Roma” of Pasolini.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? I don’t believe in real heroes. Heroes only become heroes from the dead or non- existent.
Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? “The bad lieutenant” by Abel Ferrara and “The city of women” by Fellini
What role plays art in my life and work? It has always been part of me and my life. I find it in the world I observe and in my being an instrument of contemporaneity.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? More than a narrator, I feel like the architect of my life. I believe that joys and sorrows come to us as we live
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? The good wine.
What project, in 2020, am I looking forward to work on? My greatest desire is always to make good quality works, regardless of the project I work on.
Where can you see me or my work in 2020? You can find me in my home-studio in Milan or in the sea of Sardinia while I swim. My work is always visible on my blog
claudia-matta.blogspot.it or on my instagram profile @claudia_matta
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I fully share this thought. If passion is also our job it is a good luck … but it is also a nice rip off!
