What is the best thing that I love about my work? The best thing about my work is the colors. I love them on, strong, of great impact. I love fluorescent colors. I was inspired by my mother’s Guatemalan origins since as a child I saw the wonderful colors of the embroideries and textures. In my mind they mixed together with Michelangelo’s colors and the paintings we had at home: my father, of Roman origins, showed us art in every corner of the Italian capital.
What is my idea of happiness? My most idea of happiness is simple, made up of a few things. My family and art. Surely in this pandemic period he taught me just that: they make me complete. However, I would like to reach the pinnacle of happiness by traveling with my loved ones touring museums and works of art around Italy and the world.
What is my greatest fear? My biggest fear is hatred because in recent years it is spreading due to ignorance, especially among young people. I have nothing against it if young people love social media, but if they spent more time listening to each other, they would find it more beneficial in communication and in real relationships.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? What I like least about myself, I think is my impulsiveness. Even if it is the part that I love less than myself, I use it a lot in my paintings. Sometimes I paint straight away, without really thinking about it. Surely it is also my truest part and that distinguishes me.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I admire Bansky. I love to think that one day I can wake up and have one of his works of art in the house. It is an art visible to all, where you don’t need to buy a ticket to the museum to enjoy it. In his works there are always strong and provocative messages at times, but clear to everyone. He is definitely a revolutionary.
What is my greatest extravagance? My extravagance is to sew my own clothes. I love to choose the model I like with the fabric that captures me for that style. I sewed a coat with a fuchsia Teddy fabric that looked like a bathrobe, but it makes me feel good when I wear it.
On what occasion would I lie? I don’t like to lie, I would only do it to protect those I love. It should be the last resort I could find with my back to the wall.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I love my job because it is dynamic, creative and true. Perhaps the part I like least is the social part. I don’t like to speak in public especially to explain my works, I find it too intimate and sometimes I’m afraid of not being understood.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? The moment I was happiest in my work was in two places where I exhibited: Florence and the Netherlands a few years ago. Exhibiting in a gallery in the heart of the Renaissance is lucky for a few. And in Holland, on the other hand, I really felt like an important, avant-garde artist.
If I could, what would I change about myself? Honestly, I wouldn’t change anything about myself. Over time I have learned to accept and appreciate who I am. I’m not perfect, but it’s me and it’s a great luck today not to want to be someone else or like someone else.
What is my greatest achievement in work? My greatest success is having won several awards in recent years, including one as an emerging artist in my country and being able to exhibit in different places in Italy. Some paintings are present in private collections, these are important successes for me.
Where would I most like to live? I would like to live where I am now: in Matelica. It is a city in the Marche where I am close to the mountains and an hour from the sea: I could not wish for more. Everyone has a place that he loves and that he would never leave, for me it is my home and I feel great here. If I could ever buy a second home I would buy it in Guatemala near Lake Atitlán, I find it enchanting !!
What is my most treasured possession? My most precious asset is my family, my husband and my daughter are very important to me. It could be taken for granted, but it is. The second is definitely the easel that my father-in-law built with his hands, I love it!
What is my most marked characteristic? The most marked feature I have is definitely the sensitivity. It is a double-edged sword but it is thanks to it that I express myself and my emotions through painting.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? In my city, Matelica, there are two places that inspire me. One is in the mountains near the Abbey of Roti (an old abandoned church in the mountains) and to get there, over the mountain road, you have to cross Braccano which is a hamlet where the houses are full of murals. The other is certainly the city of Ascoli Piceno, where I grew up and studied art. When I go to these places I feel really free and happy, it inspires me a lot in my work
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? In my city there is a place where I like to drink and eat and it is the restaurant “The errant knight”. Those who pass by these parts must absolutely go there!
What books influenced my life and how? The books that have influenced my life are different. One is definitely a book on Michelangelo (unfortunately I don’t remember the publishing house) I remember watching the “Tondo Doni” for hours when I was 12 and I was fascinated by the colors and shades. I dreamed of seeing it live and then I succeeded several times, visiting the Uffizi. That book prompted me to paint and to attend an art school. Certainly another is a book on Baroque art that my father gave me when he was 15 and one about Caravaggio that my sister gave me at 20.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I would not listen to music, I would not stop even for a moment.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Surely my hero can only be Frodo, from the “Lord of the Rings”. He manages to live an adventurous and exciting story despite being one like many others. He manages to carry the weight of the ring and win his battle against evil. It is small and big at the same time, strong and weak. I could write more about him, but I’ll stop here.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? In real life, my heroes are the ones who try to change what they don’t like every day. They are those who are capable of good deeds and love for others. I hope they don’t disappear over time.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I would recommend an Italian film “La grande Bellezza” by Sorrentino. Every time I see this film I get excited because the scenes are exciting, the real characters and the views of Rome are breathtaking.
What role play stories in my life and work? In my paintings there are always true stories. I represent people I have actually met with flowers or landscapes. I represent the diseases I encountered with animals and the emotions I felt with abstract paintings. There is nothing that escapes painting: everything is captured by my eyes, mentally reworked and fixed on the canvas.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? My life has not been easy, but I have always carried on relying on my strength and my stubbornness. I never gave up a moment and I will always try to reach my goals. I can say that I am strong, very strong.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Definitely my husband. He gives me the push and the charge to create and paint and supports me in art
Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2021? I would certainly like to exhibit in the following galleries: the Melzi Fine Art in Milan, the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, the Antigua Art Gallery in and the El Carmen Art Gallery in Guatemala, the Sotheby’s gallery in New York and Moma.
What project, in 2021, am I looking forward to work on? 2021 did not bring any projects, unfortunately, due to the pandemic, many exhibitions have been skipped. I will take advantage of this year to look for ideas, new ideas and stop to plan something for 2022
Where can you see me or my work in 2021? Online! at the moment I am waiting to exhibit again. Look in my contacts to view the works
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? It means never extinguishing the flame you have inside and never stop believing in yourself and in your dreams.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? Carla Pistola and Patrizia Prospitti. They are two truly exceptional artists
