The Heroine’s Journey of Raphaela Siqueira

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The thing I like most about my work is to create a new reality,  to representing ideas and perceptions of the world. In addition to always reflecting on society and people.

What is my idea of happiness? My idea of ​​happiness is a bit abstract, but I always think about what a perfect day would be like. I think that happiness is in what is not accessible, a feeling of completeness and it is in everyday life. So my idea of ​​happiness would be to be healthy, to have everything I need in my life to be happy, not having luxuries necessarily, but having peace of mind.

What is my greatest fear? My biggest fear I think is loneliness and being misunderstood, I think all this has a little to do with the fact that I’m introverted and often feel like I’m different, or that I don’t belong in different spaces.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I believe that being anxious and sometimes exploding, which causes me great suffering in my days, is often difficult to perceive myself inside you with your fears and feelings, and it’s probably what I like least about myself.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I think the person I most admire in my profession is my teacher and mentor Victor beuren! I think if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t be able to see that it’s possible to be an illustrator, I was almost giving up on going down that path, in a way he rescued me to get back on my way.

What is my greatest extravagance?  To be honest, I don’t have a lot of extravagances, I’m pretty controlled about spending and everything, but I like quality food and I really like to cook, so maybe that’s my extravagance…

On what occasion would I lie? I think I’m quite sincere in general, but sometimes I lie so as not to hurt the other, I think that if it’s not to say something good, I won’t even say it, because many times I’ve ended up hurting others without realizing it, because I’m very sincere.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? What I like least about my job is the solitude, not having a lot of people to share things and feelings about what we do, since I work from home.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I think it was last week, on the 10th of August, where I had several paintings exhibited together with some women artists from my city of João Pessoa.

If I could, what would I change about myself? it would certainly be less emotion and also less perfectionist, both make me suffer together being too perfectionist makes me want to control things and often I can’t and in the same way it drains my emotions a little.

What is my greatest achievement in work? I think my greatest achievement in my work was the exhibition that was made with several women here in my city, I will definitely achieve many other things…

Where would I most like to live? For sure in Italy, I think that country is very magical and has a very beautiful energy, in addition to breathing art and beauty.

What is my most treasured possession? I don’t have many possessions, but it would certainly be my technological device, computer, camera and cell phone, with them I can work, have fun, gain knowledge and explore the world with the palm of my hands.

What is my most marked characteristic? I think my most outstanding characteristic is kindness and empathy, I have too much empathy for others, I always think about what the other person may be going through and about how their experiences reflect what they reflect on the being you are currently

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The place that inspires me the most in my city is the center and the beach, because they are very extreme, in the center there is still a lot of face that stopped in time by the buildings that were maintained since many years ago and the beach for its exuberant beauty.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? my favorite place to eat and drink is a restaurant called “Direto do pé”, it’s a beautiful place with lots of plants and very colorful, and it has a menu focused on very natural foods and drinks.

What books influenced my life and how? my favorite book is called Wonder I really like how the story is told and I caught myself crying when reading it at various times, I think it’s a very delicate, sincere and beautiful story. influenced a lot in my construction of how I see other people, always trying to look at them with more affection, because you never know what’s going on with them.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?  Wow this is very difficult, I really like Brazilian popular music, I think the song I would listen to on my last day would be Baby 95 by a wonderful Brazilian artist, Liniker.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I’m not a big fan of super heroes, i think sometimes they take some human layers, anyway…but my favorite hero is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, i think because it’s a dystopia, i keep reflecting on society and i believe that she was seen as a heroine, as she broke with all the parameters of that society that she was in search of freedom.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My real life heroes are my parents, i think they are the people who pushed me the most in this life, who didn’t make me give up in my worst moments is that i see that they are wonderful people who do everything for the people around them return.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I really like a movie that I saw recently by Joaquim phoenix “Don’t Worry, he Won’t get far on foot” that deals with the life of illustrator John Callahan who was in a car accident, but I really like how it brings a deep reflection on our life.

What role play stories in my life and work?  What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? It means that my story is in my hands, that I am the only person I can do for myself and find my way.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? For sure my boyfriend Giuseppe, since he arrived in my life he’s been a super supporter, he’s from a completely different area than mine, but it’s very beautiful to see how he looks at me and my arts, he’s usually the first commenting on my stuff and is a wonderful supporter of my achievements.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2022? 2022 is coming to an end, but it would definitely be working in some magazines, despite working for a long time with art, I became an illustrator not long ago, so having an opportunity at new yorker, the guardian or the wired would be amazing for my career to jumpstart.

What project, in 2022, am I looking forward to work on? I think it would be really cool to do a project for a magazine about women, it’s a subject that I really like to show in my illustrations
