What is the best thing that I love about my work?
Understanding the world via writing. I’m a screenwriter so ultimately it’s the act of creating stories and characters on the page, then making them live on the screen.
What is my idea of happiness?
Laughing with family and friends.
What is my greatest fear?
Losing someone I love.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
Not being as expressive in person as I am on the page.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?
Screenwriters with distinct voices who make their films like Paul Thomas Anderson, Pedro Almodovar, Jane Campion, Noah Baumbach, Sarah Polley, and Greta Gerwig.
What is my greatest extravagance?
Travel.
On what occasion would I lie?
When being honest was detrimental to someone’s feelings or well-being.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
Navigating difficult personalities, and non-constructive story notes.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
I’m currently having a career-high with a screenplay that has attached a great cast and is moving into production.
I’ve been fortunate to live in other states and countries due to my husband’s work and have had the best writing experiences away from home.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
I would not procrastinate or stress about things that I can’t control.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
The top three are joining the Writers Guild of America, collaborating with an Academy Award-nominated director Jan Komasa, and being included on the industry coveted Black List for best screenplays
Where would I most like to live?
I’d like to have the ability to travel more often and live in different places.
What is my most treasured possession?
A collection of my father’s favorite books, and memories of people I’ve loved and lost.
What is my most marked characteristic?
Compassion and kindness.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
California beaches. They are my office in the summer.
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?
Aroma Cafe in Studio City. It has a charming little garden where I take my laptop for the day and enjoy the coffee and food.
What books influenced my life and how?
There are a few books I read in high school that left an impression and planted a seed including Victory by Joseph Conrad, West with the Night by Beryl Markham, Rabbit-Run by John Updike, and The Complete Stories by Flannery O’Connor.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen to on my last day?
Probably Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album head to toe for its storytelling and reflective mood.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Scout “To Kill a Mockingbird, Elizabeth Bennet “Pride and Prejudice, and of course Nancy Drew.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
Civil servants, first responders, whistle blowers, and anyone who walks the walk for others.
Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?
The Godfather trilogy.
What role play stories in my life and work?
Stories are oxygen and sustenance for writers, we don’t exist without them.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life to me?
Each day is a blank page. We write it.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, or partner in crime?
My husband. It’s complicated and sublime.
Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2022?
Films are hard to get made and I respect female filmmakers who are doing it. I would love to work with Kathryn Bigelow, Sophia Coppola, Jane Campion, Greta Gerwig, Chloe Zhao, Jennifer Kent, Dee Rees, Karyn Kusama, Lena Dunham, Lisa Cholodenko to name a few.
What project, in 2022, am I looking forward to work on?
“Anniversary” which is a feature screenplay that I wrote and is being produced next year.

“We write to live life twice”, I think that’s true of most writers.
