What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love to make people happy with my music: by playing or by teaching. It is for me very satisfying when the public enjoyed my concert or when the students are enjoying their progress or the piano class.
What is my idea of happiness? Happiness is when you have a purpose in your life. And the best purpose is to love. And again: you love the other ones when you make them happy. You can do it through your work.
What is my greatest fear? I really don’t think very much about fears…… to live in the present is the best thing you can do, although you have to plan for the future. But you don’t have the future in your hand. So, I do what I can at this moment, and that’s it.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Sometimes my lack of confidence in myself when I think that maybe my playing is not good enough. Or sometimes my lack of patience.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I admire some pianists or musicians because of their passion or charisma in the interpretations like Martha Argerich, Kissin, Yuja Wang. I admire also Andras Schiff because of his huge knowledge about Bach and music in general, and also his way of playing Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. And I admire also Barenboim not only because his playing but because this wonderful project of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. You can always learn good things from others.
What is my greatest extravagance? I don’t think I have an extravagance…. but I have many things I love: Ballet, books, Painting, excursions in the nature, board games.
On what occasion would I lie? I think it is better not to lie… But maybe if somebody (or a system) tries to take away your main rights (freedom, life, health, etc.) and there is no other way to save them…. May be in this case I would lie
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? To teach somebody when you see there is no interest to learn.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I have been very happy in my work many times!!: the first time I played with orchestra in Mexico (with the Philarmonic Orchestra of Mexico City), or when I participated in the Warsaw Chopin competition. When I did all my recordings, it was very satisfying to think I did it the Best in this moment. I was very happy too when I finished my transcription of Danzón n. 2 for piano solo and met the composer Arturo Márquez. It was a great honor for me. But I get happy also with little things: every time when after a concert people tell me they have enjoyed it, or when a little pupil wrote to me saying I am “the best piano teacher in the world”. That is very sweet and really encouraging.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I would like to have more confidence on myself. But in a way I am happy as I am. It is better to accept yourself as you are and try to be better. And, if every person is unique and unrepeatable, then I don’t have to be like others but myself, as a person and musician. And try to be better.
What is my greatest achievement in work? To have won the scholarship and came from Mexico to Vienna to study, where I live now. Or to have (as I said before) participated in Warsaw in the Chopin Competition, where I played some concerts in some cities during the competition. I will never forget those days in Warsaw. To have been able to record 4 Albums: one with a Mexican Label (Urtext) and the other three with ARS Produktion in Germany, a very good classical Label. And to have seen published my transcription for piano solo of Danzón n. 2 of Arturo Márquez in Peermusic Classical. I will never forget our meeting with the composer. And finally, I was very happy to discover that Yuja Wang has been playing my transcription in many concert halls of the world.
Where would I most like to live? Now, where I live: Vienna. But I could live also in Mexico, where I am moving in the coming months.
What is my most treasured possession? My faith in God and my beloved ones, my family.
What is my most marked characteristic? Determination, persistence……quickness…. or passion…. Maybe.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Musikverein! But the parks too, like Türkenschanzpark or Stadtpark which are both Jugendstil and also the old narrow streets near the cathedral.
What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? I love Viennese cafés (Wiener Cafés) like Bräunerhof or Hawelka, but that’s only for coffee. And to eat, I like normal Austrian cuisine, like Reinthaler’s Beisl in der Dorotheergasse or “Heurigers” in Grinzing, these are typical restaurants like taverns. But I don’t eat very often in restaurants.
What books influenced my life and how? I used to read many fairy tales and fantasy books. I loved to imagine those woods (as we don’t have in Mexico) with fantastic beings. I liked also adventure books and my father bought to me all the books of Jule Verne. I think they exalted my imagination and creativity. When I was thirteen I liked to read again and again a sweet book for girls called “Little Women”. As an adult I still like it. I like other fantasy books too like Narnia (C.S. Lewis), The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. I like also books who help you in life like “El arte de recomenzar” (The art of restarting) of Fabio Rosini. I have read it several times. And there is another book I love, about little things and remembrances of Childhood: Chico Carlo of Juana de Ibarbourou.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Bach! Goldberg Variationen or Matthäus Passion. Or Schubert B – Dur Sonata or Chopin, one of both piano concertos.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Jo of Little Women, or Frodo and Sam of the Lord of the Rings….
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? All the people who gave their lives for others, and these are also many. My parents, for example, or friends of mine who have spent all their life in service for others doing with joy everyday things, normal things like the good mothers. Also, all the people who helped me in different ways to be the person I am now. And a famous woman I feel attracted because of her strong character and I could see like a heroine is Santa Teresa de Avila.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I don’t see many movies…. But I liked very much the movie Amazing Grace of 2006 with Ioan Gruffudd and Benedict Cumberbatch
What role play stories in my life and work? As a pianist, I am always involved in stories I have to “tell” with the music. It is important for me to reflect about my own life or the life of others in order to give this content in my music interpretations. Even now when I am answering these questions, I realized much better how many wonderful things I have and how important is to share with others these experiences.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? I am the one who take the life in my own hand and try to make something of value for the others. There are things you cannot choose: where you were born, etc. But that what you have received, you have it like a gift, a present. And you have to make something of it.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Fans: maybe my parents…. Besides I have two greatest fans: one is somebody of my family who is also my best piano student. I don’t mention her name then she will know it when she read this. And the second fan is a sweet little girl, also my pupil, who make drawings for me and writes she is my fan! Sponsor? Like the Medicis? I have never had! What a pity! And Partner in crime? I don’t do crimes, so I have no partner…. hahaha!
Which people or companies would I like to work with ? I would like to have an agency like IMG Artists, or Musiespaña, or Kaechartists. Of course, I would like to record for Deutsche Grammophon or Warner. I would like to play with Alondra de la Parra or Dudamel or Benjamin Zander or Andrés Orozco Estrada. I would like to play for András Schiff…. there are a couple of my dreams.
What project am I looking forward to work on 2023? Now I am preparing for a concert I have in June in London. Here the link: https://stjamespaddington.org.uk/events/leticia-gomez-tagle/
In a few months I will teach in the Music Faculty of the Panamerican University in Mexico. I will
be very happy to share what I know with the students. I will hopefully have also different
concerts in Mexico and in 2024 in Vienna and Linz….
Where can you see me or my work? I have a website, a youtube channel and facebook page and Instagram. You can see me there.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I will be always a passionate musician. The conductor Benjamin Zander says that as a professional musician, we have to be amateurs, because amateur means you do your work for “love” not because it is a job.
