The Heroine’s Journey of Coral Mizrachi

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

There are a lot of things I love about acting. I love the creativity part, the child-like play, the traveling, the new world I am entering when I am working on a character, and so much more. But I think the one thing that made me fall in love with acting, and why I won’t be able to do anything else, is how alive I feel on stage or on set. When I am in character it’s an intense feeling like no other. There is nothing like living in the moment.

What is my idea of happiness?

Such a difficult question. I don’t think know the answer to it. I think that happiness comes from within, and that we should move everyday towards finding that happiness inside of us.

What is my greatest fear?

Not to be fulfilled in my life. And cockroaches.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I am my own greatest critic. I am rarely truly proud of myself.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

It’s difficult to choose, because there are so many amazing people in the Theatre, Film and TV industry that I adore for so many different reasons. I think that I’ll have to go with Jodie Comer.

I’ve been so impressed with her work recently. I think she is a phenomenal actress. To watch her act feels like a masterclass.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I can belt like an R&B singer. My voice is my secret weapon.

On what occasion would I lie?

Truth is my job, and I try to live a truthful life and avoid lying.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

I don’t like it when I see in a script that I need to cry, as stage instructions. It put a lot of pressure on me for some reason, and makes the crying feel so artificial, instead of letting it come organically.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

There are way too many to choose. My work as an actress is my life. It is the air I breath. Every minuet I am on set is like taking a breath after being underwater. I am forever grateful to be so privileged to feel such a love to my profession and to be able to pursue it and do it every day.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I am a perfectionist. In a sense, I like that about myself. It makes me work hard for my achievements and do everything the best way I can. But it does come with bothering thoughts whenever something isn’t perfect. Of course, you learn to be flexible, but it’s still difficult letting things go. I am still learning.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

To be able to support myself financially through acting, and not to split my time across a few ‘survival jobs’.

Where would I most like to live?

New York is my city. I feel most at home there, even though I was born and raised in Tel Aviv. I’m a city girl, what can I say.

What is my most treasured possession?

I am going to say something cliché, but I do think it’s true- my heart. I am sensitive and observant, and I love it. The more I lean more to my emotions and being true to myself, it makes me a better actress and a better person.

What is my most marked characteristic?

I’d say determination.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

It depends on what you mean by my city. In Tel Aviv, the place I always go back to is the beach. I just love it, and it makes me feel alive. In NYC, I adore Bushwick and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. They are so vibrant and full of creatives; I always feel inspired when I’m there.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Hamania Café in Tel Aviv. It’s my favorite spot.

What books influenced my life and how?

“Man’s Search for Meaning” by Victor Frankl. This specific book helped me to find meaning in the tragedies in my life, and make peace with them.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

No hesitation there: Lawrence. They are a New York funk jazz duo, and they’re my favorite band. I love their music.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

I don’t know how to pick. The fictional story that I will owe everything to is Harry Potter. It filled my childhood with magic and wonder, and taught me so much about the difference between right and wrong. I’m inspired by strong characters, round characters, that are complex and true to form.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

I’m such a walking cliché. My number one hero is my mom. She sacrificed her own dreams to raise my sister and I, and was with me every minuet during my chemotherapy when I was diagnosed with lymphoma. I adore her and owe everything to her.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

There are just so many! “Fight Club” is a masterpiece in my eyes.

What role play stories in my life and work?

Stories are my work. I am a storyteller. My job is to tell stories, so to know stories and know how to understand them is crucial.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ mean to me?

I live by that, to be honest. You write your own story, and you are the main character. What kind of story would you like it to be? It’s up to you.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

My partner in crime is my real-life partner, Boris Lukman. He’s a Serbian actor, and he is always there for me and supporting me.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2022?

I’d love to work with so many! I would really love to work with director Gerta Gerwig. She is such an inspiration, and she is dealing with themes in her movies that really interest me. I also would love to work again with Ski-ter Jones and Andrea Meshel, which are working directors in LA and were amazing to work with.

What project, in 2022, am I looking forward to work on?

There are a few lining up, and I feel very blessed. I have started to work on a play that I wrote, which will be performed in the Boško Buha Theater in Serbia, and I have also started working on a short coming of age film called Balloons Above Neptune. I also will be playing a con-artist robbing a fashion show in a new action movie filmed in LA, however it’ll most likely be filmed in 2023. I can’t wait to keep working on those amazing projects and hoping to work on many more this upcoming year!

Where can you see me or my work in 2022?

This June a short film named “Tequila” is participating in one of the biggest film festivals in the world- The International Film Festival in Tel Aviv. I also recently worked on a music video which was released in January on all internet platforms, for the musician Wes Aldrich. The music video is about the true story of my battle with cancer. What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me?

it’s true, my passion is always there. However, it can get tired. It’s super important for us as creatives and as humans to let us rest, let our passion and our hearts rest. There’s not one day that goes by that I don’t think about acting, and I don’t know if that’s healthy.
