The Heroine’s Journey of Charlotte Jardat

What is the best thing that I love about my work?

As a voice actress, what I love the most about my work is that I can be anyone in the world! I use my voice to tell stories, to help people or companies to deliver what’s important to them. I get to play like a kid and I never feel like I am working! Plus I am part of your life without you even noticing!

What is my idea of happiness?

Happiness is finding our true place in this world. It’s being in phase with whoever we are and sharing love to our surroundings.

What is my greatest fear?

Well..I’m the most afraid about death. Even the word is scary! The vast unknown it is…

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I am not an instinctive person. I wish I could let my gut speaks for me more often, but I am mostly locked down in my thoughts…The low self confidence too. But what I deplore in myself in my intimacy, in my day to day life, is not the same that I deplore in my work. When I work I feel invincible!

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

I admire and look up to three voice masters: Pierre Maubouché, Estelle Hubert and Lorenzo Pancino. They all have in common to work with passion, you can feel it’s in their hearts. It is amazing to know what they’ve achieved and how humble they are. They are happy to share their knowledge to anybody that is willing to learn and they still have their kid soul! But I also admire anybody that decided to one day give a try to that profession. Small or big talent doesn’t mean anything.

What is my greatest extravagance?

Extravagance..What a powerful word! I guess it depends how one could define it. When I was a teenager my extravagance would come from what I decided to wear, that was quite unusual, I always wanted to feel apart, to bring some originality to my life. Today…. Well, maybe my biggest extravagance was to dive into this crazy profession!

On what occasion would I lie?

Lying is extremely difficult to me. I would rather keep my mouth shut than to lie. I wasn’t even able to lie to my daughter of 4 when she asked me if I would die one day…! I wished I did, but it is honestly really difficult for me to lie. If I could do it, it would be to protect someone from a too hurtful truth.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

I love every single thing in my work! I have been looking for that perle rare since I have the age to work. It is the perfect combination between an artistic, creative work and a technical one. You have to wear so many hats that you are constantly learning something new! But if I had to pick the thing I like the less I would say…..being confronting to a client that is not happy with what I produced.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

There are so many happy memories since I started that profession…Not easy to pick one:) I guess it was at home when I got my first contract ever. Checking my email, and there! Surprise « we want YOU for the job »! Boom!

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I wish I could stop being anxious about everything.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

To me it is not about THE greatest achievement, but rather a multitude of small steps. All of them have the same amazing value. The day I decided to attend a voice acting school is already a great achievement. And the day I bought my first equipment too. The day I started believing in myself in this new world of voices..Every single day is an achievement to something else.

Where would I most like to live?

I live in the south east of France and I am loving it. I traveled a lot but as I always say, until I haven’t seen the whole world I won’t know where I want to settle:) For now I would really love living in the Reunion Island. But I never stay more than 7 years in the same place. Don’t ask me why, it is just the way it is:)

What is my most treasured possession?

My first thought was..my daughter! Then I quickly realized I don’t possess her and no one ever will..probably the word « treasure » made me think of her. Then, if we talk about an object, I don’t think I have any…In our society we can buy everything, and if it is something that I have created, and consequently something that is unique, to me it is not a possession, because it is important to be able to let go on these things. Oh, I got it! My most treasured possession is a box in which there are all the handwritten letters and small words that my friends and family ever wrote to me.

What is my most marked characteristic?

My constant smile! And the fact that I can be a ball and energy and suddenly the total opposite. Some of my friends used to call me « ON&OFF »….

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

I don’t have a proper spot where I get inspired. Inspiration comes from everywhere..it could be someone I heard in a busy subway in a big city, or a peaceful sound of rolling rocks living their live of stones in a river!

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city?

That would be two different places: one to eat and one to drink:)

There is a lot of different places that I like, they all bring something different. Le Riche has amazing fresh and organic food, the chef got a green star, the quality and the creativity of the food are both amazing. But eating Au Comptoir des Halles brings me another emotion, the family that own the restaurant make you feel at home, so nice with a beer in the sun..

What books influenced my life and how?

The first book that really moved me and made me want to read more was « Anne Frank the diary of a young girl ». It was such an incredible experience to read the words of someone that was actually living. You know, I mean reading a diary is so peculiar..This one in particular. It taught me empathy and so many other things. She was really an amazing girl. Since then (26 years ago!) I write my own diary. I have dozens of notebook filled with whatever comes to my mind. Today, the book I would recommend everybody to read, and the one that never leaves me is « The creative visualization workbook » by Shakti Gawain. It changed my life and is still doing so.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

Wooo…deep…I honestly don’t know. Well, first because as I said, I am pretty afraid about that moment but also because there are so many options! 🙂 Do I want people to dance on that day? I shouldn’t pick a music for me, but rather for the people that are still living. It’s a very recurrent thing with me, I mostly think about others, even on that day!

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

There are so many fictions in our lives nowadays that my brain is overcharged…let me think for a minute..Ok, Billy Elliott and Allan Parish (the character played by Robin Williams in the movie Jumanji), people that follow their dreams, that don’t let their choices being affected by others, that are strong enough to look at their past and to use it as a powerful energy.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

Nobody that has a name in particular. All people in the world. All people that never asked to be alive and that wake up everyday are heroes.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

So hard….! I’ve watched and love so many movies..but if it is something I have to recommend I guess I’ll go with Black Cat, White Cat by Emir Kusturica

What role play stories in my life and work?

The biggest part. Stories are what we tell ourselves to move forward or to go back in our memories. Stories are the treasure of imagination. Without stories my job wouldn’t exist.

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ mean to me?

It means that I am the only one that has the power to make what I want of my life. Will I pick right or left, red or blue, all the choices we ever make define the words of our story, of our lives.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

My two cats, Einstein and Calcifer. At night we put our masks on we walk through the city, roof after roof…Except them, I guess my parents are my biggest fans! My friends are a huge support, whenever I see love through their eyes, I know I’m going in the right direction.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2022?

Working for big companies like Pixar, Dreamworks or Netflix would be a dream come true but the size of the company doesn’t really matter. I would love to work with any production company. Sometimes the smaller the better! I am already extremely grateful for all the people I had the chance to work with.

What project, in 2022, am I looking forward to work on?

Any project! They are all unique.
