What is the best thing that I love about my work?
My work is often very chaotic. Therefore, one of the things that I love the most about it is the freedom of expression. A simple mistake could easily turn into great detail!
What is my idea of happiness?
To be able to appreciate the little moments in the present.
What is my greatest fear?
Losing my sight.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?
One of the worst traits of my character is my lack of patience. And good things take time…
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?
The Japanese animator and director Hayao Miyazaki. As a co-founder of Studio Ghibli, he is internationally regarded as a masterful storyteller and filmmaker. Miyazaki’s fantastically hand-drawn movies combine real-world experiences with the mystery and beauty of Japanese mythology. His films, like the man who created them, are legendary.
What is my greatest extravagance?
Definitely having fun! I enjoy going to parties and all kinds of events. You could find me anywhere from punk shows and rock concerts, to raves and festivals.
On what occasion would I lie?
In order to protect myself or a close person, if the situation requires it.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
As a result of my lack of patience in certain situations, my work could feel rushed. That’s what I dislike most about it. Fortunately, I could change this bad habit.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
I would say right here, right now, I am the happiest with what I do. As I am still quite young and lack years of experience, I can notice how my work improves as I mature as a person and an artist.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
Even if I had this opportunity, I would never take it. I am who I am due to the positive and negative experiences that have shaped my personality. If anything changes, I may no longer be the same person.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
Probably collaborating with a DJ for a music video. We shared a lot of similar ideas, and the result was more than what I could expect. Not to mention, this was the first time I was working on a big animation project with an incredibly tight deadline of just one month. I surprised myself back then and started to have more trust in my skills.
Where would I most like to live?
I currently love my life in the Netherlands, so I would gladly stay here in the long term. Yet, I would also like to travel and experience life in other countries some of which are Japan and Australia, and maybe Iceland too.
What is my most treasured possession?
The memories I have with the people I love!
What is my most marked characteristic?
Being an excessive planner.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
The park on a sunny day.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
An Asian restaurant with a Korean BBQ.
What books influenced my life and how?
The most influential book for me is “The Stranger” by Albert Camus. As I read it at an early age, it introduced me to the theory of absurdism and overall sparked my interest in philosophy. Other books that are worth the mention are “Animal farm” and “1984” by George Orwell.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?
Punk rock and techno!
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Naruto, who never gives up, no matter how miserable life gets!
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
My mom and dad!
Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?
“The Butterfly Effect” or the animation film “Paprika” by Satoshi Kon.
What role play stories in my life and work?
A major role! I am an animator and illustrator, so naturally, storytelling has a vital part in my work.
What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me?
The way I understand this quote is that I am the one with the power to dictate my path. No matter what happens, I can choose how I reflect on it, and how big of an impact it would have on my life. It means you have the power to make your own decisions and control your destiny!
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
My greatest fan is my grandma!
Which people or companies would I like to work with?
Some of the companies/studios that I would love to work for are Buck, Submarine and Anikey studios in the Netherlands and studio Mappa in Japan.
What project am I looking forward to work on?
Hopefully, one day I would have the chance to work on an animated series or even a feature film!
